Just a few things.
I had been thinking it for ages and he proved me right. Johnson is not a defender, he's a half forward. Similar player to Houlihan but better in nearly all ways. Houlihan should be in the 2nds and Johnson up forward. Johnson would be good playing up the ground as he's a good mark and a good player to have kicking it into our forward line.
Like I have always thought Houlihan is a bloody ordinary player. He's too slow, can't chase and tackle and he has no physicality or intensity about his game. There is no way he should play in front of Robinson. Houlihan is so bloody slow with his hands! Even Nick "strauchnie" Stevens would contribute more than Houlihan. Houlihan can't play against sides that run, are any good or can be bothered putting a tight tag on him.
Fisher is the worse chaser of opposition players I have nearly seen ever! Some times he doesn't even run straight lines at them. I don't know how you can be so bad at this but he is. When Warnock comes back in we should play Kreuzer forward and put Fisher back in the 2s. His kicking is embarrassing.
We have big issues with getting the ball out of the center. Betts was very good in there and hits the ball with good momentum unlike the rest of them.
We used Judd's ability to take the oppositions best tagger to our advantage by not directing the ball to him around stoppages as much and allowing Gibbs, Betts and Murphy to run free and play attacking footy. Judd still collected a lot of possessions but was able to get more outside possessions too which was good.
Carrazzo is a damn good shot on goal.
Armfield is tough, fast, and a good shut down player although he could play closer to his man IMO. I don't know if his stopping ability out weighs his bad kicking though.
Thornton had a dirty day dropping marks.
Our goal kicking accuracy let us down.
We are doing quite well seeing we are missing Robinson, Walker, Warnock, Waite and fit Stevens as well as being a young side.
Russell was pretty good. I think he's a 1 position/role player and that's playing half forward or midfield and being allowed to hunt the footy rather than playing defencive.
AJ probably played his worse game of the year, did some bad things like going to ground and watching the ball instead of the hips on one occasion when a player balked him a bit. Still played alright.
Ratten had us attacking more in the midfield instead of this over defencive rubbish like we served up against Essendon, we actually had a lot of players going for the ball.
Setanta O'hAilpin has improved his game and is playing quite well as a forward. Should have had 5, could have had 6. Still gets pushed off his feet a bit and might lack strength around the legs and hips. Great size and the right type of athlete to play the modern CHF role. Fevola, Waite and Setanta could stretch any defence for height and run simultaneously.
