Just Another Computer Glitch

Appreciate any assistance that can be given on this problem.

Booted up my computer this evening, only to have lost sound from many of my programs.

Each of the mp3 and wave files have been transformed into the little "white page with the Windows symbol", and RealOne Player no longer functions.

To make matters even worse, my Norton AntiVirus (which I live update religiously every day) refuses to scan, nor take all available updates.

I followed all of the steps on the Symantec website, including deleting all Temp files etc.., but still no dice.

KazaaLite wouldn't run, so I've dumped it, along with a few other programs.

Sound like anything you're familiar with ?

Sounds a bit like a corrupted registry, you could try going to to http://download.com.com/3150-2094-0.html?tag=stbc.gp and choose yourself a registry repair tool. i don't have any opinion on which one you should go for tho.

Yeah, that's almost certainly what it is, Jim. Thanks for that.

I gave the Novarg and Beagle fixits a go, and neither of those turned up anything.

Looks like I might have to just fork out for one of those registry repair downloads, unfortunately.

Yeah, Zeke, I think you're probably right ... I just don't know any better !!

I've done the whole Symantec thing, then downloaded Registry Mechanic and run that, and still can't mend the problem.

I think the bloody thing's going into hospital on Monday, which is very problematic as the PC has become my office. I guess that means that this has become a long weekend all of a sudden.

Ghost, this is beyond my ken so what you may try is going to a site called www.spywareinfo.com and posing your question on one of the forums there. They may be able to help.

Ta, CJ .. eventually ironed out my problem with a computer geek mate of mine. Turns out that the sound card had been dislodged over a period of time, and the Norton AV had been corrupted - both entirely independently of each other, and just coincidentally appearing at the same time. Go figure ...

So, I guess it's back to work then.
