Firstly I’m not trolling or trying to rub anything in (I can’t really rub anything into anyone when my team has lost 6 straight) but I’d like to talk about the player that was so tenderly referred to as Madonna on the Geelong Blog (Beamer).
I’m just curious about two things that I would like your opinion on.

1) Hypothetically, if Moloney was still at Geelong, would he be getting plenty of games this year?
and
2) Would he be having a better or worse season if he was still at Geelong compared to the season he has had with us so far?

if moloney was at Geelong he'd certainly be in the best 22. That said he probably wouldn't be playing as well as he is at Melbourne because he wouldn't be getting us much game time... then again our midfield has been carrying passengers for the last few weeks so who knows?...

1) I think he would have beeen getting plenty of games, but not as much time in the midfield as he is getting at Melbourne.

2) Since 1) holds, then his season wouldn't have been as good because he wouldn't have had the same opportunities.

I think he'd be in the 22 and would probably be getting a fair bit of game time due to Wojcinski's absence as we could use a pacy midfielder who is willing to run the ball and take the opposition on. Had Wojcinski not done his knee, I'd suggest Beemer wouldn't be getting as much game time, probably running off the bench in the position being filled by Byrnes currently. So if he'd stayed, he'd probably be having a similar season to what he is at Melbourne.

He wouldn't have had the opportunities. There's no way he'd get a game ahead of Corey, Enright, Ling, Ablett, Bartel, Kelly or Chapman. Undoubtedly he would have played some games but he would have been battling selection with guys like Tenace and Shannon Byrnes.

Moloney's excellent long kicking and physically mature body would have seen him ahead of Tenace and Byrnes, IMHO.

But I think the real issue is that the club, Geelong itself, would have been down the bottom of the ladder if Moloney had stayed, not through any fault of his own, but due to the poor form and injuries of King. Without Ottens this year Geelong would currently be bottom 4 material. Ottens may not have won many games off his own boot but there have been times when he's gone into the ruck and the team has suddenly picked up. His output hasn't been great but his influence has been enormous.

But that's just my opinion. :p
