I am meant to be waitressing at a function on the 17th of Feb for my parents at some big function. However, i just realised ,it is the same night as the Carlton function on Tassie.

I am torn. Well, i'm not really - my priority is going to the carlton thing.

How do i tell my family i'm not going to waitress for them??????

Attending the Carlton function is something you will remember for years. There may be some short term pain, but your parents will be over that the next day, but you'll have you memory of the night for years to come.

I've been a waiter.....best excuse is to throw up in front of them (get something from the chemist) then when they ask if your ok, say

"yeah fine, its just that the idea of missing the carlton game is wreaking havoc with my prospects for short term survival bu I'm sure this function is worth my life."

Just first ask them how they would feel if you were not able to make it. If they say they'll survive then tell them you can't. If they ask for an explanation tell them the truth.

You tell them now, it gives them and you a month to find a replacement. As another poster said why not pay a friend $50 or something to fill in for you?

Cos....I'm envisioning a scene from a Disney movie where you go between the two functions throughout the night, only to be finally foiled by the fact that after the 6th change of venues, you burst into the waiting gig dishevelled and still wearing your Carlton jumper....damn, so close....

Do it, film it....put on youtube so we can enjoy too!!!!

kind of small thing but they're struggling to find waitresses, that's why i said i'd do it.

Just told my parents i wont be waitressing.... i told dad that it is because there is a Carlton function on and he told me to go for it!

I told mum that it is because it's my birthday weekend and i will have other plans, such as a function at the Casino... for Carlton haha.

(we have a carlton doorbell, so I guess i had nothign to worry too much about)
