Just thought you guys would like to know I heard on SEN just then that Justin Koschitzke had an eyesight test today, including reaction times etc.. and apparently scored no higher than a 3/10 for the different tests.

Perhaps this explains his constant badluck

It may explain some things.
It is too easy to make assumptions based on this sort of evidence. We do not know that the visual test he fared poorly in definitely relates to any problems he has had.

This article refers to his results at the Draft Camp in some of these areas:

Koschitzke's bumps more than bad habit
Stephen Rielly
July 21, 2006

COULD it be that there is more to Justin Koschitzke's collision habit than mere bad luck? It appears so.

More than simply star-crossed, it seems that the St Kilda ruckman's inexplicable collision with an umpire last weekend and his failure to sense the approach of Daniel Giansiracusa's skull-fracturing hip and shoulder 10 weeks earlier might have a physiological explanation.

Data from the 2000 AFL draft camp Koschitzke attended reveals that while he stood out as a prospect in many ways, he was well below the average scores for peripheral awareness, reaction time and decision making, the three components of a psychomotor examination all of the potential draftees sat.

According to figures provided to The Age, Koschitzke produced a score of three out of 10 for peripheral awareness, one out of 10 for his reaction time capabilities and two out of 10 for decision making.

It is understood that a score between five and six is considered average, a score between three and four below average and two or fewer significantly below average.

By comparison, Koschitzke's teammate, Nick Riewoldt, who was also at the 2000 camp, returned a score of five out of 10 for his peripheral awareness. The pair were taken by St Kilda with the first and second picks of the national draft that followed.

While many of Koschitzke's well-documented woes have been physical, he was deemed to have made negligent contact with an umpire in the round-19 match against Geelong last year, for which he was fined $2400. He collided with field umpire Shane McInerney.

The collision in round six of this year with Giansiracusa, who later said he was surprised that Koschitzke did not see him approaching from his right, caught him completely unaware. The consequences were serious — his skull was fractured above the right ear in which he lost hearing for many weeks and he was beset by headaches and periods of dizziness.

It was only a fortnight ago that he made a tentative return to the field, an uneventful half in the VFL reserves with St Kilda's affiliate Casey Scorpions, and he misses this weekend after being suspended for crashing at speed into the back of VFL field umpire Josh Krull at Burbank Oval last Saturday. With eyes only for the ball, he failed to see Krull standing directly before him.

The collision, at a routine ball-up, left Koschitzke with a badly gashed lower lip, which required stitching, concussion and a loose tooth. He was taken to hospital for precautionary brain scans.

Yes. I think he will be an inclusion next week.
I look forward to seeing him back on the park for the Saints.

At times Gardiner has heightened awareness

We could really do with Kosi across half-forward as another target. We are desperately lacking another option down with both him and Aaron Hamill out.

Off topic, I know, but if we could only finish fourth, we are looking forward to a chance to a repeat of the first final like last year.

Yeah, I'd say full forward, so he can safely concentrate on what's in front of him.

Looks like Kosi could be a inclusion this week. Im feeling both excited and anxious about this. I'm guessing the closed training session was due to Kosi. Does anyone have any inside info?
