Recommitted Jy Simpkin [UFA 2029] - staying at North Melbourne

Pushing the price down is that he's not very good and in addition, has a huge salary for a number of years. I rate Florent more highly and he has been asked to look around; any trade for Simpkin should be seen as a salary dump.

Thanks Jon

Pies have got all the big name journals trying to publicly push the price down

In fairness North are asking for 2 first rounders too many.

Bloke isn’t very good and is on $1mpa.

Future second with North paying a portion of his salary is what he is worth.

North fans claiming they arent kicking him out. Yet they signed him on a long term deal on big money but kicked him out of his preferred position. If he was valuable he would be in the middle.

How are North kicking him out?? They have openly said they want to keep him.

They have LDU and Sheezel, who play in any midfield in the comp, in front of him, so obviously his role would have changed. Powell and Parker, Mckercher and Wardlaw. North finished top 2 for clearances and top 4 for overall midfield output in 2025. Their midfield is absolutely not the problem.

I think they view Collingwood in the same way every other club is. Desperate.

In their defense he is a 2x B&F winner and their captain.

It’s not as if they are shipping him around. He is the guy who wants to go.
A long time issue for the Roos is that they don’t have any reasonable senior players. This will be another who ends up leaving.

He is probably worth a pick in the mid to late teens to be fair.

2x 1sts is just ludicrous and just shows what’s wrong with the club when it comes to drafting/trading. Surely they threw that out there because they want to scare off clubs.

Not quite, have you ever had an asset you wish to sell in your life, which somebody else expresses an interest in acquiring?

Simpkin + 2026 R3 + 2027 R3 > Ess> 23, 2026 R1 and we'll pay all his salary - will be how it ends up.

You disagree? I feel like Simpkin is being underrated a bit on here and I have no horse in the race.

Brad disagrees, and well, you only need one bidder to fall in love.

True, true and insanely true. He still is a fair way down the batting order at the mighty NMFC.

Nothing wrong with the approach - for once we're a position of power in a trade, an unusual spot given all the baked-in disadvantages small clubs have. He's contracted and we see him as an elite outside mid + we're not short on salary cap space. We can set whatever price we want - worst case we keep him, best case we get well beyond his worth. We stopped Xerri being traded and that worked out just fine.

Media pressure coming with it is ridiculous. We should just bend over for the favoured AFL clubs apparently.

This is a great example of the greater fool theory. Will Collingwood release North from their terrible decision to pay Simpkin $1mpa. And pay 2 firsts for the privilege.

If I were a pies fan I’d be writing to the club pleading with them not to do this. Could be one of the all time blunders imo, the fella just ain’t very good.

He's not a million per season for starters, secondly we have no salary cap pressure and thirdly we want to keep him. So in closing, **** the Pie fans. Said of course with love.

Why is raw dog rawlings requesting 2x firsts for someone you want to keep

Is this a serious question, if Rawlings didn't want to keep him, he'd ask for a third rounder. RUOK- lol that's up there with the most ridiculous things I've read on here.

So you are entertaining offers for your contracted captain who you definitely want to keep. Interesting.

Not really tbh. If a club wants to overpay a player with four year contract to get him out, go for it.
He's on 800K fwiw.

I think the general idea with contracts is that you lock them in so that they can help you win flags. But interesting nonetheless.

You’re dreaming if you don’t think every player is gettable at the right price.

If Tassie comes along and offers three top five picks for Ashcroft the Elder- you don’t think it would make the Brisbane brains trust do some calculations?

Magic beans against a known 2x norm gun in his prime who wants to stay at the Lions. No we don’t push people out who want to be here.

It’s how you end up like certain other clubs who are experiencing prolonged difficulties. I won’t name them.

What about five magic beans?

Or seven?

Thanks didn't know that, what I think makes it easier for certain clubs to be successful is having access to players bottom sides don't have . I won't name them.

I think Brisbane is one. We offer a valuable service to the competition via our academies and improving the talent pool. Other clubs offer next to nothing but I won’t name them.

You will lose your access to success soon enough. Then we can all laugh.
