G'day lads, watched the match last night... very impressed with the way we were able to run the whole game out, it shows that the fitness work over the summer has worked.

I noticed that Tenace was in the squad, but i didnt see him out there at all. I was very much looking forward to seeing him play, does anyone know why he didnt play? or was he out there and i just didnt see him?

didnt c him either, bnut i was impressed with thurley

Tenace did not play last night, after being one of the two players droped from the final squad (the other being Tom Lonergan). Along with Thurley, I was very impressed with Shannon Byrnes. The kid has poise, speed, silky skills and a little grunt about him (laid 5 tackles during his limited time and wasn't afraid to give a little push and shove back to oppponents). Gotta love him.

he was in the top 5 for tackles at 1 stag during the 3rd or last quater as well.

Byrnes may well be the silver lining to the cloud of King's injury. If King goes on to the long-term injury list (not sure what the minimum weeks requirement is), then Byrnes can play in the seniors. No long-term injuries, no Byrnes.

10 week minimum for the LTI list, so there is no chance of King going onto it.

If the club put him on it now, they'd just be confirming what we all know, that a) they tell porkies and b) the injury is worse than expected.

He was fantastic in the VFL, ive seen him a few times and he will be a steal at #6. I always said he was a top 3 prospect.
Beat Walker who was fantastic last week and did some good things this week.
Tenace is 10 months older and Walker was overcoming an op till late Jan .
Tenace has the confidence to run and bounce through traffic.

I'd assume only the regular season, given that rookie listed players can already play in the pre-season comp.

One thing concerns me slightly about Byrnes, and that is his peripheral vision. When he got the ball, he tended to long bomb it in hope rather than delivering to a lead. Although, considering it was our foward line, there may have been no better option. Also when he linked up with Chappy (I think) but didn't spot the handball and it bounced off his back.

Up until now, Shannon's brilliance has gotten him by, hasn't needed to learn any of those areas.

Only query is to date he has demonstrated in matches he is a receiver who doesn't work backwards at junior level.

He is definitely not a receiver. I find that kind of criticism of him ungair.
He is a very good player who can win his own pill. He mightnt be Simon Black in and under but youd be crazy to have him under the packs with his pace.
He wont shirk it, he does go in and is hard.
His reputation was tainted somewhat during the finals. What people dont realise is that he had a wrist injury from a few weeks before the finals. The bandage was getting bigger and bigge each week but he kept playing with the strapping (injury)
He also received a knee injury the week before the finals.. had the bye but kept playing when one recruiter told me "perhaps he shouldnt have".
Thats a kid who has some steel.

In my opinion top 3 were Cooney/Walker and Tenace. My opinion only)
Sylvia i think was gorillaring players that were much smaller than himself. Players in the AFL all do weight training so that advantage will fade .

THS fair summation as a top 10 pick. However if you watch some video footage he tends to not work backwards and is usually on the periphery of packs where he darts away at 100 miles an hour with the ball and damage the opposition.

Not criticism at all, simply observations. Regardless, one thing we both agree upon is he is a very talented player with a massive future if he wants it.

He is all class, do not get me wrong on that....

The point i was trying top make is that Tenace can play inside but with his pace why would he be instructed to get in amongst it?
His strength would be negated.

from what i saw last night he will be a andy mcleod/ kason akermanis type player.

and i love it
