I was just wondering why people on this board rate this kid still. I mean sure he has pace, but when he has the ball he usally mucks up. he has to be one of the worst kicks in the club or even the worst, his kicking action is like a soccer player where he just hooks his kicks all the time. that may because he doesnt poise himself or thats his kicking action (i hope its because he aint poise) this year is defintly make or break for him, your opinons?

not sure if it's make or break just yet but there would have to be some improvement

was he suffering or overcoming an injury last year? I can't remember. He had a very good 2005, and an average 2006. He does need to improve but mate, he is not on his pat malone there.

A fair call. Kane's been sitting on potential rather than performance for quite some time now, and has done little to suggest (up to date) that said potential will be fulfilled anytime soon.

I'll admit I'm still a Tenace fan, but let's face it, it's hard to defend a guy who hasn't shown a preparedness to run or work hard on the field (and perhaps off it, for the latter). Ever since he wowed us with his first season, it's been very much a backslide into nowhere really; his kicking still lacks penetration (and yes gocats88, you'll find his kicking action is just that - a two-handed hold and drop of the ball) and accuracy particularly over longer distances, his defensive skills are often non-existant, his work ethic in covering ground is poor (and on this, his fitness seemingly even poorer), his decision making and ability to read the play hasn't improved enough over the years, and he's done little to unsubscribe himself from the 'soft' tag that seems to plague outside wingmen.

It's a shame the list of things Tenace isn't doing outlists that of what he currently is doing, and perhaps a greater shame (if recent training reports are to be believed) is that it has taken him this long to figure that all out.

That said, again, if those said training reports are any indication of things to come, then maybe Kane finally has a chance to show that he can be a constant line-breaking threat, he can pause his brain for half a second longer to process and make good decisions, and he can know when to run and how to run, with and without the ball in his hands. Because god knows he has the ability to be the type of running player this team says it needs right now.

No doubt his kicking is at times poor and he hasn't come along as much as we'd like, but I think there were signs last year, especially the last quarter against the Saints in the early part of the year, where he was very good - probably the most influential I've seen him in a match (also kicked an important 50+ metre goal). Unfortunately for him he injured his knee the next week against Collingwood and when he made it back he was in and out of the team.

But yes, he better show significant improvement this year otherwise his AFL gig is finished.

Kane's skills were good as a junior. He has taken a long time to adjust to the pace and pressure of AFL level. I agree that if he doesn't adjust soon his days are numbered.

I think your sources may have been up to their eyeballs in the sauce.

I'm not sure about Kane - he looked the goods in his first season but for whatever reason he was a let-down last year. His workrate just wasn't up to scratch and if he is going to improve then that is probably where most of it will come from, as well as his disposal, which seemed very erratic last season. He still pulled off some scintillating runs and we need to see more of that excitement from him this season, as well as a lot more consistency.
