yea, i think Rivers has definitely shown the most. i think Norman and Tenace have also shown they're going to to be players for years to come.

Davey has probably been the best in terms of performances alone, but small forwards can be hit and miss. I think he'll be around for years, but the other three might be more solid players over the long haul.

I can see a similarity in Karl Norman & Warren Treadrea as they both appear to have a big stride in their running and cover more ground than it appears.

i swear, ive been to alot of carlton matches recently, and Karl has got one of the best kicks on him. And the best vision. Very Very good for a rookie

I think Karl is one of the most valuable players in our team... a lot of people disagree with me, but I think he is a player we need in our team for everygame of the year.

Agree stokesy, reckon he would have got picked a lot higher up if he didnt choose working over playing tac football.

What I love about watching him play is his decision making, attack on the ball and ability to back himself in a contest. Also I respect a player with a bit of mongrel and who will take no sh*t from any other player despite thier reputation.

Love King Karl.

I also agree with you Stokesy and I have really been enjoying reading/listening to what he has had to say in todays and yesterdays interviews in response to the nomination. He seems hellbent on repaying his team mates for sticking with him and it looks like he will be wearing the navy blue for long long time.

Pick 79!! Unbelievable get ShanO - Fisher wasn't bad at 72 either :p

Just goes to show what we might have missed out on in that draft at the expense of Mick Martyn (pick 84)......

A couple of great reads below!!

Obviously, Karl Norman should NOT have won this week's Rising Star! And the competition is rigged. It's designed for the Victorians to win, you idiots! Jared Rivers will win the award for sure this year! Good. He's a South Australian. This week's nomination SHOULD have gone to either Hayden Skipworth from the Crows, or Sam Butler from West Coast. They got 20 possessions, 3 goals and 8 marks, and 17 possessions respectively. THEY were the stand-outs. But of course neither of them were nominated, seeing as they are from South Australia and Western Australia. Karl Norman only got 11 possessions.
This week's Rising Star Nomination is a load of crAp!

Obviously you are a tool.

How many games has Skipworth played this year? - 4
How many possies did he get in the other 3? - 12, 3 and 10

How many games has Norman played this year? - 12
How many possies did he get? - 21 was his best game, he kicked 3 goals against St Kilda

Do you watch any games? Has Skipworth beat Lucas and Matera like Norman has?

So before you open your big mouth, why don't you investigate? The Rising Star award is about consistency not about stand out performances, unless the performance is really stand out (like Walker's 26 possessions on debut against the Eagles)

F*ck off back to the Crows board.

You can be nominated for performances on a particular weekend, or in this case for performances throughout the year. Norman got 22 touches and 7 marks against geelong in rd 2, add to this a consistent yr playing 12 games, and scoring 3 goals against st.kilda, he also took lucas to the cleaners playing chb (actually got lucas benched) and picked up 13 posessions and 5 marks as well.

If you don't think he's worthy of the gong for a consistent and promising yr then ur stupid.

Skipworth played a very good game against the dogs, but he's only played 4 games this yr. At midseason break they give the award to someone who's been consistent and unlucky not to get a nomination already. In rd 2 against geelong when norman should have got a nomination michael firito got a nomination (what a great player he'l turn out to be  ).

NOW BACK TO THE WHOLE U CRAWLED OUT FROM!!!!!

The AFL must have been pretty desperate for 'rookies' to nominate for the rookie of the year award if they gave it to Guy Richards. How can you give him the Round 9 nomination when he was outmarked by Hayden Skipworth, from the Crows, in a one-on-one contest, when Skipworth is only 175 cm tall and weighs the least in the AFL, at 70 kg? It's a JOKE. McGuire must be sleeping with the person/people who run the award again. Guy Richards? A better choice would have been Hayden Skipworth! And no, I am NOT Hayden Skipworth! I just think he's a good player... better than Guy Richards!

Then:

Whatever! Just stating the facts! Hey, I'm surprised that Collingwood people can even read. Maybe they gave it to him for that and not for his talent on the footy field, which he does NOT have! And you're the idiot for being brainwashed by McGuire and all the Collingwood freaks into believing that Richards can play! Trust me, he'll be gone in a couple of years!

Clearly he is haiden skipworth ... or has a sexual attraction to the bloke!!!!!

Uh, right. I am a she idiots. And really, if you're going to go abusing people, please learn how to spell first, or it really does detract from the message, and in this case, abuse, you're trying to get across.
Perhaps you should get your facts straight as well. Norman plays in the backlines, and Skipworth is a midfielder/ forward, who has been playing on a half-forward flank this year, so obviously, he couldn't beat any of the players you are referring to, as he is playing at the other end of the ground. Also, Hayden Skipworth did NOT play against Essendon, and therefore COULD NOT play on Scott Lucas and beat him. Add to this the fact that he is only 175 cm tall, and would not be played on Lucas, and there's your reason he has not beaten him. This week, against Melbourne, Skipworth had 20 possessions AGAIN (15 kicks, 5 handballs), kicked 2 goals, took 4 marks, had 3 clearances, made 2 tackles and spent 100 of a possible 125 minutes on the ground, coming off during the third quarter due to a groin/adductor injury. After having some treatment on his injury, Skipworth came back on to kick a goal in the last quarter. Anyway, he beat Nathan Brown, who had 14 touches, and was on for the entire game, before having Matthew Whelan swapped onto him. Whelan had 7 touches and was on for 87 minutes.
But this round, the nomination will go to Richmond's Jay Schulz (originally from South Australia, the Woodville West Torrens Eagles in the SANFL, and the Yorke Peninsula, both of which Hayden Skipworth comes from. The other candidate is Brent Reilly, from the Crows, who registered 30 possessions playing at half-back on Melbourne's Aaron Davey, the Round 1 Rising Star nominee. Reilly beat him, and Davey was eventually dragged.
GO CROWS!
I used to think Carlton were okay, too...

Not surprising you cop a bit. What did you expect? You come into the Carlton forum full of steam suggesting there is a conspiracy and Karl Norman is not a worthy nominee.

Karl has played several games worthy of a nomination this year and has finally been rewarded. You talk about Skipworth not being tall and not playing in defence to belittle Norman's achievement and then go and quote his possessions in the midfield. Well, everybody knows that defenders play a different role and get less possessions than flankers and midfielders. Chalk and cheese.

A reminder too that this is the Carlton board and others can not come in here without showing respect (BigFooty posting conditions). If they do the posters and the moderators will soon accommodate them.

Apart from that, all is well and carry on as usual.:)

Sorry. I will TRY and "show some respect" or whatever. Anyway, I hope Carlton beat Port Adelaide today. What are the chances of that, hey? I DO like Carlton, especially Fev. You have some good players. I wish Fev was out there this week. He's the best full forward in the game, and that's what I've been saying for ages, too. What do you reckon you'd want in a trade for him, hypothetically speaking?
GO BLUES!
