Happened To notice that no one had kayne Pettifer in the intra club sides? was he playing? and if so did he play in the possibles or prob's? and if he didnt play - why? he isnt injured as far as i know - and i would hope not since in the hearld in the past week i have seen footage of him wakeboarding!!! Go Tigs

He hurt his shoulder in the intra-club match last week in Mildura. Was reported as a minor injury, but obviously enough to keep him out of this weeks intra-club match.

Quite right, got a banged up shoulder but not too bad!!!

The real question is WTF was he doing playing anyway??? We've seen him play for 4 yrs and produce almost nothing!!!! I hope he comes out this year and blitzes like he has shown he may be capable of, it'd be a reall feel good story, but i just don't think he's got it!!! Of course I haven't played nor coached AFL footy so maybe I'm no judge!!!

I am sure he showed enough in the second half of last year to suggest that has has something to offer at the top level.

Here here.

Why do people continually bag players, even when they showed the were turning the corner?

Pettifer was a suprise packet to me last year and im sure he will only get better.

the reason pettifer never showed anything is that he was never allowed to. being plonked in the forward pocket of one of the most defensive teams ever and then being dragged to the bench every five minutes is not in my opinon an opportunity to prove oneself. he was so good at coburg last year early in the season that he demanded a spot in the team and when he got one he was one of our best players out of a back pocket and half back flank, until he got injured, even kicked 4 goals when used up forward in one game. he should continue to improve this year.

Good post DT ... spot on

His attitude for his first three years was well documented ... ordinary

But last year he really turned it around , in all facits , apparently he had had a real good look at himself and the results up until his injury were career saving IMO , deserves another go , and i believe , that he will start repaying a bit of the faith that has been shown in him

We all hope so. I agree that he finally showed a bit when given an opportunity last year. We've been patient with him and it'd be nice to be rewarded for that.

Honestly, how can Richmond think of premierships in the future if we have the names Pettifer and Hall on our list. LMAO @ spud's comment at the start of 2004 that hall would be our main CHB that yr. DID HE HAVE ANY IDEA??

As maligned a player as he is I'm sure we would all, deep down, like to see the kid step up to the required level as some here feel he is capable.(me included)

Would lovd to see him blitz too General, but he is very limited as a player. His only real strength is his penetrating kick. He doesn't have a 'footy brain', no in close skills, no vision or awareness, things that you can't teach a footballer. He might look alright on the training track, but when the heat is on, he doesn't have those attributes i just mentioned to be good enough for AFL.

Go Tiges!!!

Did you see him play in the backline late last year? In my eyes he showed plenty of those attributes

he was a very decorated and highly rated junior player, you dont lose the attributes you only lose confidence. it is well documented that he was a bit lazy early in his career, he has had his wake up call, now give him a chance to prove himself. he was fantastic last season, so if he backs it up this year he will be well on his way to a cemented spot in the team.

i think he needs to chill abit more cause it seems to like he tries way too hard, which is a good thing but he has to learn to be alot more footy smart to allow his natural game to come through and not waste all his energy on meaningless pursuits.

he seemed to be turning the corner indeed last year in this regard hope can can keep it up coming into 05.

exactly corporal. can't really work out where tigertrance is coming from suggesting his only attribute is his penetrating kick, and that he doesn't have a footy brain nor awareness. admittedly, his kicking is probably his major strength but its a nonsense to say that that is all he is good for. his footy smarts have got him where he is now, and is the main reason behind him getting back on track in the last half of last year.

his skills are pretty good, and he has a pretty bloody good footy brain to go along with it I say.

How can you expect him to have played good, up untill the end of last year he was moved from position to position then onto the bench, you can't do jack sh1t if that happens, and its not like he is old he is 21-23 even younger he still has a bit of time on his side so reserve your judgement untill the end of the season

I know what u mean Blx.

It's like a guitar player that can play his ass off but loses it when he tries
to play another style all together.

Just try and be your best self and feel right about your game.
In Pettifers case i think such advice would go a long way.

It's obviously a make or break year for him, he showed me enough late last year to believe he can make it as a good average player, but he's going to have to perform consistently over the whole season.

Last year was the first time he had an afl physique, he had bulked up noticeably and hopefully this gives him a bit more confidence to be a bit harder at the ball and man.

A couple of things the club (read coach) has done wrong to stunt his development:

1. played in a variety of positions. I'm a firm believer that young kids that aren't big stars need to learn one position well before they are expected to be moved all over the park. This is partly his fault in that he hasn't done enough to nail one position, but also the coaches fault for continually moving him around. I thought he showed a lot on the HBF last year and this is a good spot for him.

2. not made to earn his spot. Both Pettifer and Fiora have been handed free games for years without being made to earn them, both of these guys would have benefitted a lot from time with Coburg when out of form, instead they continued to get selected. I believe this creates a mindset that they don't have to be doing their best to get a game with Richmond, and it's all downhill once you start thinking like that. This year we have more competition for places than last year so hopefully we won't see the same situation, I don't think TW will be afraid at all to drop a player if warranted. We only need to look at the performance of Bowden last year to see what effect this can have.

As others have said, he has had no confidence and that is something just about every player at the club suffered from last year. So many guys we know can play were shocking, a key job will be to ensure they can all forget last year and get some confidence among the playing group.

I'm not sure if he'll make it or not yet, time will tell I guess.
