no doubt will get bagged or worse for this thread, not sure if its been done before but ah well.

no stats just goin off the top of my head,

before last year, Kent had consistantly got 50+ goals for the season, usually kicking about 50.50 (or more points) meaning he had over 100 shots at goal, for ya focal point foward thats pretty good, considering his size and lets say it.....skill level.

he has 1 bad year and every1 jumps all over him, bags him, yells over the fence, the media get into him just comes from all angles...personally i dont think its fair. surley you get more then 1 bad year to proove yourself.....charlie gardiner springs to mind....spriggs, brent girjic. all players given more then 1 bad season

yes, in the end i think it was him leaving the club (dunno, was overseas) but reasonably sure there was mass pressure on him......

thoughts?

Well i personally couldnt have been more happy to see him leave geelong. iv never liked him but he did have the occasinal good game. his kicking was just 2 poor for a power forward and i could never watch him kick for goal scared me 2 much. l;ast year was terrible for him but it was for the whole team so i guess u could say that when he was up and about geelong were winning, but this year indicates that we havnt lost nething by getting rid of him.

I thought Kent was a reasonably clever footballer and could out-think and out_muscle the inexperienced and smaller backmen but up against quality backmen he would go completely missing. I was glad when he left because of 1 reason.....geelong would never win a flag with him as a full forward. History tells us you need a good forward to win flags.

Who is west coasts good forward? Ther midfield wins them games no their forward line but i agree couldnt win a flag with kent playing FF

Lynch kicked goals in West Coast grand final win, so did Hansen.

I would love if we had a bloke who takes a mark at 60 out then thinks...well I will line them up from here.

I am not saying that Lynch is a Barry hall, but you only need him to have a good day at the right time and the rest is history.

West coast midfield does win them games I agree but I don't think they would have won if they still had Phil Matera running around up forward instead of the big unit. The midfield is great but they need the cattle around them.

True, Gary Ablett Snr was pretty ordinary as a forward

I had no issues with Kent while he was at the club except I think he lost more and more confidence in himself as time went on - if he wasn't 30m out directly in front he'd look to pass off.

I was annoyed when he left and had a couple of potshots at Bomber though - I think Bomber stuck with him when some others would have dropped him.

I always maintained Geelong would never win the flag with Kingsley on the list.

Picture this, 30 seconds to go in the 2007 Grand Final, cats down by 5 points, Kingsley marks 35 metres out on a slight angle.

*shudders uncontrollably at the thought of the result*

Never a big game player and cracked under pressure. A lot was asked of him being our focal point in attack, as Kent's body size was for a HFF not a FF.

He was a loyal servant of the club, but just went missing too much, and for gawds sake stop taking marks on the lead on your chest Kent, too easy to spoil.

*YAWN*

Kingsley is gone, who cares!

Thats what i think Nablett does too much, its either they're good defender playing on him and/or he isn't as fast.

Its early days for Nathan , Its something that he needs to look at now while he is still learning. Thats why we should get a forward coach down there that played up forward

Why do people say that about KK ?
He's bigger than Lloyd and Fevola. It's just that they know how to use their bodies to advantage and they don't mind the hard stuff like contested marking.

I think it is silly comparing Nathan to Kingsley. The game last week against Freo really showed out Nathans inexperience. Like when stokes was going for the mark and Nathan ran into him to try and outmark him. He should have protected Stokesy and been a shepherd for him. Stuff like that shows up he still has a lot to learn.

Nathan has the potential to be a superstar. Kingsley will only ever be a good average player if he is playing well.

Nathan has the potential to be a superstar.

I disagree... Nathan severly lacks pace on the lead and doesn't have a good engine to play a Reiwoldt style game as an alternative. He will need to put a hell of a lot of work into his game before the 'superstar' brand is even thought about.

To say that he is bigger than Fevola and Lloyd is just plain funny. Those 2 have far, far more strength / speed and are far more athletic builds. Nath is bigger for the worst. I think he needs to develop into a half forward / Reiwoldt style running player to be really good. Pace isn't something you can really train to get.

Jub was actually commenting on KK size not Nathans

Because nathan didn't come up through the usual football development he may not really hit his straps for another couple of seasons yet. He needs to build up his strength and endurance I agree. But I really think he has the potential to be a superstar. But he is far from it right now. The reason I say that is that obviously he has footy smarts. That is his gift. Building his body is really only a step. But once he puts it all together....ie the right fitness level, experience, and his natural Ablett skills....BAM! he is going to be great.

Martyk your issues with Nathan are purely a fitness thing which will get better and better as time goes on.

Spot on catman , agree 100% the right people leading Nathan , he will be a standout in the comp.He is showing enough now to say that but he has a long way to go still

Fitness -- Only if he works HARD at it. I'm talking running 10-12klm a game like Reiwoldt probably does. This takes a lot of training and hard work to get to that level... I don't see the determination there to be honest.

Speed -- Really doesn't have much to do with fitness, not as far as AFL players go. Nathan doesn't have a kind sprinters build... For someone his size/weight he needs to do some serious strength work on his legs (like his old man did).

stat wise, not much different:

KK - 193cm/95kg
ML - 192cm/92kg
BF - 191cm/100kg

His first match for Richmond this weekend , I hope he does well

I know you know the bloke. I've been looking for any news on his possible selection this week. I haven't been able to find any. I read though that Riewoltd will be making his debut, so is there room in the side for him? If he doesn't get picked this week, with Richmond's youth (tanking) policy, you would think his career would be over.
