Just wondering about the ol' Kepster. THey mentioned on the news that he has shed a whopping 8kg's. Pretty impressive.

He is a real battler. He works hard and gives his all. He is a natural athlete. Is he an AFL footballer? Not sure, but I have a feeling the Kep might be making an impact this year.

Can the Kep get a regular spot this year? I hope so, because I love it when he kicks a goal. Something peculiar about all his techniques, and the orthodox matix 101 book goes out the window as he bamboozles team mates, opposition players, supporters and the footballing world.

There is something about Kepler. I put him up forward.

After the tri series I have no doubt that we need 3 key forwards. Pavlich, Clarke (if he can hold contested grabs), and one other. This may be Kep, Anthony or I guess a rotating tall in Sandi, Elvis, Johnson.

Pavlich gets destroyed up forward if he is the only target.

Will be interesting to see how he goes under Lyon.

You got the feeling harvey had his special players and if he didn't like you, you were in trouble. kepler got dropped and he wasn't doing alot wrong.

He scored the most goals per game for the club in 2011, is a hard worker and will lead all day. Should be a long way ahead of Anthony for the full forward spot.

Should be ahead of Anthony although JA was reasonable in the NAB with his defensive pressure and field kicking. Field kicking JA has it over Keps.

At this stage I think the three prongs might be Pavlich, Keps and JA. Clarke is pushing - needs to start takign contested marks and then he might push out JA.

How is Kep's knee - had some issues last year, is he up for a full season or will he need managing.

Lyon's post-match interview suggests that the coach is quite keen to have Kepler in the side. I'd be starting him a FF for sure. With Pav at CHF and a resting ruckman in the pocket, as well as DeBoer and Mayne able to take a grab, we'll be a lot more difficult to defend against.

Thats all very well but for the last 2 seasons Keps body has been cactus by about Round 6. By then he can't get a break on an opponent and can't jump. Hopefully better this year.

the problem with kepler's knee is that it is degenerative, he may never able to give more than say 14 games a year. He looke sensational in parts last year, just before he was concussed he dropped form because of his persistent knee tendonitis, and once concussed he was effectively dropped

I always got the feeling that harves loved kepler, he always seemed to talk about him with a smile on his face, a bit like he did with ballantyne

Kepler has had a history of patella tendinopathy. It's usually self-limiting, but it can become chronic and extremely painful. When it does this, it's defined by degenerative changes to the patella tendon (feel just below your patella, it's the band of tissue that anchors it below). However, these degenerative changes can be reversed with some pretty nifty surgery (90% success rate). GWS sent Jonathon Patton to Sweden to receive surgery for his patella tendinopathy.

Also, it's important to note that patella tendinopathy is not an inflammatory condition, so cortisone injections do not work.

Anyway, I hope Kep is over his knee troubles and plays a significant role in the forward line this season. I love watching him make the complex look simple and the simple look complex.

I always got the feeling that Harvey liked Kepler as well. However, I also got the feeling that Harvey didn't actually rate him all that highly as a footballer.

Losing 8KG will do wonders for his knee and will likely also boost his own confidence. Given his height and hopefully improved speed let's hope he can make a dominant forward this year. If he is truly fit and plays all 22 I can even see him scoring more goals than Pavlich.

After watching John Anthony fail big time last week I'm not sure he can even replace Mayne in the forward line. But if those 2 are fighting for the same spot maybe it will be "ok". Don't think you can play them both at the same time, too similar.

now this i actually DO agree with. although i dont think there is a hope in hell of kepler scoring more goals than pav for two reasons

1. ability- pav is clearly a better player
2. Team focus- if you have two players free one is pav one is kepler, who is a young player going to kick to? Pav 9 times out of 10

Yeah a bit like franklin if he increased his mobility due to weight drop. However his kicking isn't quite as "nice". That said his ratio of goals/behinds will probably end up similar to buddies.

It would be nice to see more people have a slightly different kicking style like Franklin does.

It better be to whoever Ross tells him to.

Just because Pav has more ability than Kep, it doesn't mean he will be the safest option. A team may have one great defender on Pav, with a score of spuds stinking it up in defense. Spuds=Keplers Din Dins!

I tend to agree with Mems take of Keps, less weight could see an even more mobile and fast Kepler. It might sound crazy but with his height and running I could liken him to Buddy Franklin with his physique, albeit with 12 toes.
Obviously Franklin is much better, but apart from this they could easily be labeled similar players...

No it doesn't...also first round draft picks taken from WA.

So tall, human, male, AFL players, first round draft picks from Western Australia, (edit)whose first and surnames tally 13 letters(edit)....Is that where it ends? Oh wait! Both were leading goal kickers for their clubs last year...umm... only one kicked a couple more than the other. Any more similarities?

They also both have a total of 13 letters when combining their first & surnames.
