Chances are, that by the end of the year, BT will be gone. Kevin Sheedy is out of contract at the end of the year, and it is no secret that the Bombers are looking at snaring Thompson... What would you guys think if we signed Kevin Sheedy as our new senior coach?

Personally, I have a lot of respect for the guy, and think that he could be just what Geelong needs to push it the final few metres towards a flag.

I want Michael Voss, i don't want the horse Longmire as i have reservations about him, i really feel we need someone like Voss who has so much experience and knows what it takes, add buckley and Hird as assistants and things may improve.

After seeing Tim Watson's dramatic failure, I would never want to see us hire a coach that didn't have assistant coaching experience.

i think being an assistant coach in most cases may be a good apprentiship but i don't see how someone of voss's ability as a leader of 3 flags etc wouldnt be able to coach straight up, as long as he has good assitants helping it wouldnt bother me at all.

I have a huge respect for Voss but I'd like to see him do some sort of apprenticeship first.

For example, as coach, you have to be a bit of a bastard sometimes, you have to drop players, you have to resort to anything to get your players revved up. Voss is nice bloke, an intelligent bloke but has he got that bastard inside him?

How much of Voss the player was hard work and how much was natural talent? Can he express in words and impart on those below him the technical skills required?

We don't don't inspiration in our coach, we need it in our captain and our players. I'm just concerend that Voss is too much of a nice guy.

I'll throw another name in the ring from left field. Nathan Buckley. Assuming he is available at the end of the year, I reckon he will be an excellent coach. His reputation for self-displine and hard work ethos is unparalleled, remember how Brenton Sanderson was in awe when he boarded with Buckley. He is a thinker of the game (eg rules committee) and has real mongrel about him who expects and demands high standards.

I recall seeing him give the Lion's players a bit of a revving up a few times when they were playing lazy football. He looks like he can get angry if he needs to.:thumbsu:

Bucks could be excellent, but what about the apprenticeship you mentioned above - don't you think he'd need one too? Plus, I can't really see him leaving Collingwood but I'd be happy to be wrong on that.

Voss being to much of a nice guy, i must of watched a diff bloke the last decade, this bloke was ruthless on the field and led his team like no other has before, him being a nice guy would be the last of my worries.

Buckley no thanks compared to Voss, thats a insult to Voss!

I just think Bucks has displayed more attributes applicable to coaching than Voss has. Bucks led the way the way in pursuing his goals through methodical calculation, he set himself training routines and stuck to them, he set himself dietary programs and stuck to them and he also has more mongrel IMO.

Bucks is the consummate professional and not a journey-man. While he is for now a Collingwood man, once his playing days are over he won't let sentimentality dictate his career.

Doesn't necessarily mean he will be a good coach. A little too stand-offish and self-centred.

I agree about Buckley, whenever I've heard him talk, he has that knack of simplifying the game very succinctly, which is something a lot of good coaches do. It's no indictment on Voss, I just think Bucks is the better communicator.

Why would we want bomber back to coach us. What type of drugs are you on with a claim like that? The only thing that could entice Sheedy to gelong is the chance of coaching G Ablett, he missed coaching the dad and would love to coach the son. Essendon dont want bomber back as a coach...

Seems like a perfect match. Our fans don't want Bomber here as coach, essendon fans don't want him there. Get the paperwork ready, Bomber's going to Essendon. :D

He was untouchable after that assault complaint. Give it a year. I wouldn't underestimate how much impact he had when he was at the Cats.

They made no fuss when he left after one year - look at the fuss Power made when Sando left - and his contract was terminated at Brisbane - that's all before the complaint. For all the supposed impact at Geelong he made little at Brisbane.

It's been rumoured for years that Daniher or Thompson would return to Essendon.

You might not want him, but the talk around the club is that Essendon are circling. After all, he is your star. Perhaps they assume he'd have more passion if he coached the Bombers.
