I think Sandilands is the obvious solution to make our forward structure work.

I suspect Griffen will ruck 50 percent and Sandilands will have a greater forward role.A forward line with Pavlich,Sandilands and maybe Bradley/Johnson/Clarke. Will be be very hard to contain.

hopefully Lyon will teach players how to kick to Sandilands advantage and to use free players if he attracts two or three defenders.

I have thought that Sandilands could be even more valuable as a forward than as a ruck man.I would expect at least 40 goals and 100 goal assists.

playing him 50/50 ruck forward will potentially keep him fitter and fresher.

Sandilands is also handy at the other end for the kick out. I'd rather have Sandi/Griffen be the bonus when they're moved into the forward line.

Not suprisingly I really want Pav at CHF.
A fit Balla and Mayne.
We still need a better FF option, hopefully pick someone up in the draft as a long term option. Maybe Mellington will also improve with another preseason.
MJ could still contribute as well, just depends on how hard Lyon can kick some one up the @@@@ and how MJ responds.

Definitely have to start relieving Sandi in the ruck especially since we have 2 very good quality back ups in Clarke and Griffen I'd like to see 50/50 with Sandi going forward.

This was one of Harvey's failings as a coach and for the last two seasons it meant that Sandi couldnt ruck at the business end of the season which ultimately killed us as we were so reliant on Sandi.

If Sandilands is our forward line great hope...we are screwed. Can't kick, can't mark...good for a Mark Seaby goal a game...at a stretch 2. He is no Paul Salmon. Ditto Griffin. Ditto Zac Clarke.

Silvagni is best in backline.....

We will just have to hope we can nab a forward in PSD or National Draft & back them in....would of liked Callum Wilson running out of golsquare tbh.

From the looks of it atm, Kep Bradley will be FF in 2012....:o

Totally agree! Those that think he can work as a forward are dreaming, please let us know when he has even looked like working forward in the past. He's had plenty of opportunities and it's failed badly. He can't mark against tall defenders and he's too slow off the mark to get to the fall of the ball. Set shots are a raffle too.

One has to think differently about what we have and how they have been used - misunsed.

Ross Lyon plays a defensive brand of football: totally diffreent to what we have been used to.

With our forward press we tended not to have much in the way of space for leading forwards to utilise.

However, Lyon stacks the other end and Milne, Riewold etc had plenty of room to lead into. That style of play may well suit Jack Anthony's style of play. He did kick goals as a leading forward at Collingwod.

In the same way, Johnno may get a new lease of life as a free defender, which he is best suited to as he doesn't have the smarts or quickness to play one on one.

From the draft, perhaps Kersten, a good Souths boy. I would have thought him to be high on our list as a key forward. Ready to play.

I don't mind the prospect of Sandi heading forward in patches, it's been proven frequently that he can pitch in for a goal here or there. If I remember correctly, he was heading forward and pinching a goal in the first quarter quite frequently in 2010. Turf toe meant he couldn't jump/lead as well (I know he wasn't carrying it all season), but if he recovers well, I'd enjoy seeing two or three of them rotating through the forward line.

I'd really love to so Sib's given a regular shot, he was great to watch against the 'dogs, but like has been stated, he needs to get his tank up to par.

A forward line of:

Mellington Griff/Clarke/Sandi Ballas
Mayne/DeBoer Pav Sibs

would be interesting, IMO.

The best soluton lies not in this player or that player - it lies in having having good structure and tactics, and a group of forwards playing together as a team.

I'm hoping that the recruitment of Ross Lyon and Peter Sumich is the beginning of a solution along these lines.

we need a straight up forward. not a forward moonlighting as a ruckman. not a forward cum midfielder. a tall, preferably big bloke, who leads, marks, turns around, chucks up a bit of grass, kicks it through the big sticks and does nothing else, except maybe lay some tackles. a larrikin who the ladies like, with a bit of dash, strong enough to move a fridge on his own, light enough on his feet to sidestep a goose. we need one of these.

The other forward from SF colts in Mason Shaw would also be a good option. 197cm tall and kicked 7 goals in the colts final

Kersten says the player he most resembles is Brendan Fevola.

You know who also resembles Brendan Fevola and wouldn't cost as must???

Not the best mark in the league, but he can take a few. He's not even remotely as bad as he was when he started. His kicking for goal is quite allright. More reliable than some of our smaller forwards.

Exactly. If you ignore the kicking yips against the Dogs, he was clunking those marks left, right and centre.

I'm more worried about the lack of forward pressure with Pav and Sandi in the forward 50 than Sandi's marking or kicking ability.
