Ben Rutten - became fixture in side and played good consistent football in 2005. Age 22.

Nathan Bock - also 2005
Age 22 1/2.

Mark Stevens - played regularly in 1999 (23). Gunned it up in 2001 (25).

Matthew Robran - always looked like a potential gun. Didn' t play consistently until mid twenties.

Lewis Johnston - currently 23.

It really isn't too late for it to click.

I have nothing against LJ, it just so happens there's too many players in front of him. If he can find some form, he can be in the team.
Could apply to any of several players in the squad. In our history, early development of kp players has been the exception rather than the norm. Sometimes patience is called for.

he'll be on the list next year, unless we draft a key forward and trade one in as well.

He's our only forward in the twos.

What do you think LJ needs then for development...apart from a heart?o_O
Don't squib out on your reply.
This is kind of what I mean. I am obviously not a coach or talent scout. What did Stevo need before becoming a star in 2001? Why does it click for some in their mid twenties?

Opportunity.
A thief still needs nerve and cunning to rob a bank even if the vault is left open (opportunity)...LJ had it at Sydney and now has it in the magoos.
For example...Lyons demanded his spot as did Cameron ( they took their opportunity)

Yeah ok champ. Just the response I expected.

I think people to an extent forget how good his form was at the end of 2013. Was in the top 5 key forwards after returning from injury according to champion data.

He was good.. i mean, Melbourne padded his stats a bit, but this season when he needed to, he didn't fire a shot.

That's what he'll get judged on, the fact he is now being considered as a KPD shows how far he's fallen in this regard.

He was average to good against Geelong and then had a poor game along with everyone else against Port. Pods was the same and survived because of his early season gold pass.
He's not capable of taking the best defender every week (even though he did well in that situation last year) but with Tex back he could be a great goalkicking 2nd or 3rd.

You can lead a horse to water but can't make him drink. Doesn't have the "want" to be an AFL footballer. I would delist him ahead of McKernan, only just.

Not worth persisting with?
What is he missing that Stevo et al. Had?
