Ok, this has just been bugging me, but why isnt Black doing the kick outs everytime!? he has the best disposal in our team and yet Josh Carr is still kicking out, now dont get me wrong, Josh Carr is a great player but we should have Black kicking out and then use J Carr to run the ball up the ground.

Thoughts?

My thoughts are it is for variety.

Black has the best raking long kick. Thorntons isn't too bad either but I'd prefer Black. Carr has the best short accurate kick (barring that 1 shocker on the weekend).

And when ever Parker gets it I just wonder why oh why and want to close my eyes.

but why have Carr kicking short when you can have Black kicking long and 9 times out of 10 hitting a target?

I'd debate that. My recollection of long kicks on the weekend was that the majority went to contests, and not many of them were marked by us.

Sometimes kicking short is a good option provided the players used in the sequence are highly skilled. Starting with Carr kicks things off on a good foot, but unfortunately the person he's kicking to is rarely as highly skilled.

Perhaps we need to spot up Black 30-40 m out with Carr kicking in, then sending a 50m pass from there.

It's certainly an area we need to work on, for as long as I can remember we've struggled to move the ball forward after the opposition scores a behind. I agree with your thoughts on Parker.

I'd be interested to see if Haddrill gets given the job again when he comes back from injury. He's done alright from the kick outs, apart from the yips he had a few years back when CC forced him to kick short only.

He's not doing the kick outs every time because once the opposition works out your pattern you're completely stuffed as they know what to do to counter it. They get a few different players doing it to create a bit of unpredicability!

I recall late last year haddrill was kicking it to the same spot each time and the opposition would just get it and kick it back in cause they knew what he was going to do!

we need our best kickers, delivering the ball where it counts. anyone can kick out
