Embarrassing.
I think the team should be forced to watch the stupidity of every one of those kick outs over and over. So should the coaches. They should have to listen to what the commentators were saying about their predictability with the kick outs and the bombing it long played over and over during the week too. Honestly though when the team doesn't lead or run in waves they might as well kick it to the same place and give it back to the opposition. Because no-one is there to receive it and no-one is further a field to kick it to.

So frustrating to watch.

I actually thought we were better at this today, only so much the defenders can do when it's pumped in so bloody often
Yeah I actually thought some of Smith's kick ins were pretty damn good. Hitting some very tight windows in Freo's zone.

The long down the line to a tall is always going to look shit when you have Jenkins and Pods putting in the games they did today.

That was the heat map I was speaking of in the game day thread..
At AAMI Stadium, every kick in from the Northern end went to the members side..
Every kick in from the South went to the outer..
We took strong notice of this from our seats..
Players would be free on the other side and would be lucky to be even seen, due to all the focus on where they're going to kick the ball being on the right side..

So ****ing predictable, nothings changed..

Seriously, this has been a problem for years.

Can we please, please develop a plan B?

Plan A so predictable it's not even worth doing anymore.

any
plan B will do.

Plan A: Don't kick it to the 7ft bloke?

We started to do this late in the third because we'd spent the best part of three quarters getting pantsed with plan A.

The body language of the player kicking out gave it away from the start. They seemed to turn to the right side which was a dead giveaway every time.

Reckon this is more of an Adelaide Oval thing + Broadbent and Smith being right footers.

Could be........but still a better result.
Because they have more than one player who is a good penetrating kick.

And Port take the game on more than any side in the comp. It is rare they would allow themselves to be hemmed in. Hawthorn tried it last week.

As said in their commentary yesterday when the game was a bit tight. Port will just persist with run and carry and attack the goal front regardless of what the score is. Keep doing this and if you are good enough, which they are, sheer weight of number of attacking attempts will get the score and break the opposition.

Yeah we were superb at picking out Sandilands

Could we have been any better at playing to their unique strength? We may as well have been bringing the field inside the circle and bowling leg side half-trackers to Gilchrist all day.

We have assistant coaches on what $150k a year working full time and this is the best they can come up with?

I am not totally against kicking to that spot regularly,it's the safest place to kick it, but against Freo you have to give them something different.

The alternative is to kick straight down the middle to a one on one. But we won't kick it to a one on one because we have no faith in our teammates to beat their opponents. As soon as the coaching staff realise that a one on one is actually a good position to go to the better.

What if someone actually went left for a change. Maybe that would be a one on one because the opposition all know Adelaide all go right.

Do we have a stat on who kicks it in most?

That could tell us a bit more of the story and help fix this issue.
