He has agreed to play for the Norwood Football Club in the SANFL next year, which is the team I support. Obviously he couldn't quite cut it at the top level, but how did he perform in the VFL and where do you think his ideal position is?

Thanks in advance. :)

He was in the best most weeks for Werribee. A good VFL player that could not cut it at AFL level. I am sure he will be a good player at SANFL level.

Waiting for Heath Culpitt to give him the ball....

good VFL player, especially this year. At AFL level not quite big enouhg to be a kpp but not quite quick enough to be a wingman/flanker/leading player. reasonable disposal and good reader of the play.

He started out as a forward and kicked 3 in his first AFL game but totally lost the plot as a forward.

He played mainly HBF for Werribee and did get a lot of easy ball but despite what many say was very good at the one-on-ones as well.

Will be a good SANFL player.

He's still young, will do well at SANFL level, most likely in a hb/chb type role, pinch hitting up forward where needed.

All the best to him for this next stage of his football career

I'm sorry, this is rubbish. Kieran's problem was purely timing being at the Dogs when there were such riches of talls.

Earlier he was competing for a place against the likes of great players like Cox and Harrison, then Rawlings and Bowden and more recently Wells, Davison and Walsh.

He will kill it at SANFL level, get picked up the Crows and then be a key part of their 2010 premiership team.

You read it here first.

he could also pinch hit in the ruck, refer to the 2006 season when minson and street were both injured.

In fact, bugger it.

Let's re-sign him now, make him captain, coach, CHF, CHB and Full back.

Take all the other players off the field.

KMcG on his own.

PS there has been a "plethora" of old (failled) dogs in the SANFL.

Am i naughty to boo @ them when they play against my "beloved" Bays?

Perhaps being in Adelaide you didn't catch all the VFL (Not AFL) action.

While he was a failure at AFL level he was in the best near every week in the VFL.

Now the question was what will he be like in the SANFL a league similar to the VFL. Based on his success in the VFL you would have to say his prospects are quite good. The question was never what we thought of him as an AFL player, that's been done to death, and we dont need to treat ex-players with that level of contempt. Particularly a player who never hurt or abused the club in any form.

Correct, i probably only catch 2-3 VFL games a year, but i have spoken to quite a few people that have played SANFL and VFL, they have told me that the SANFL is a stronger competition. The problem with the VFL is that many players (namely the AFL listed ones) play for themselves and not the team. Much more team work in the SANFL. But that's another issue.

I agree with not personally "slagging" a player, never met the bloke and presumably he has many friends and family who love him to death.

But to use other examples

Adam Contessa came from the dogs to the Bays, was absolutely useless. No commitment, put on lots of weight, went back to Melbourne 2/3 the way thru his only season.

Simon Cox came out of the wilderness to play for North Adelaide this year. Had an injury before they signed him up, was heavily overweight, and useless, ended up playing reserves before "succimbing to injuries" a month or 2 before the end of the season.

Michael Koops was signed by North Adelaide this season, paid all his seasons cash up front, and was also useless. Allegedly no commitment shown, and has left the SANFL already.

Daniel Hargreaves was de-listed by North Adelaide this season, after generally being unfit and injury prone.

The players who do burn in the SANFL are the de-listed rookie/younger types who are desperate to get back into the AFL. (and a few of them do)

They are generally far fitter, far more committed and far more successful.

And also a few have embraced the SANFL after a season or two for what it is, and have signed on long term copntracts after realising that they wont be re-called to the AFL.

Hopefully McGuinness is one of the latter.

What bollocks.

Danny Hargraves has been fantastic for North for many years and has now signed with Port Magpies.

PS. The VFL is much stronger than the SANFL because every team has at least 10 and up to 16 AFL listed players, whereas SANFL sides have 2-3.

To say that individualism holds clubs back is crap. Port Melbourne severed their ties with North to stand alone and barely won a game.

The good players get drafted not the bad ones.

Sorry Scooter, but you are wrong.

Hargs has been very successful @ North Adelaide, and a crowd favourite, but he was sacked. He signed with Port 2 or 3 weeks after leaving North.

And in the VFL/SANFL arguement, obviously i can't judge the difference, but seriously, talk to anyone who has played both in the last 5 years and they will all call the SANFL the better competition.

VFL play the SANFL regularily without the AFL listed players. From memory they are pretty even matches.
If the VFL is full of more AFL listed players than adding them in would obviously mean the VFL is stronger.

I'm with you 100% on this bulldogtragic. Kieran was respected by his peers and they are better judges about such matters than we are. Just lacked a touch of class to make it, but gave his all. Will become highly respected and shoud be successful in the SANFL.
