Correct me if I'm wrong, but usually when these contract extensions are signed the original contract is torn up and replaced by the new one.

So Sandi hasn't signed a new contract to take effect after next year, but rather replaced his current contract with a new 4 year one.

So Bels is correct - it's a new 4 year deal, not a 3 year one that suddenly kicks in after 2010.

As far as I know, these contract extensions apply from when the original ends. Thats how it works in many other sports.
