A what stage does Mark Thompson lose confidence in Steven King. We were on saturday (and nearly all year) more dangerous when Ottens went into the ruck. We just could not get the ball out of the centre early in quarters when King was in there, but as soon as Ottens was sent in the game turned. Even around the ground King looks uncompetitive. I believe that if bomber had left King on the bench and let Otto ruck the whole last quarter the result could have been different. I think the only think keeping King in the side is that he is captain. The port game when Chambers came in, he was very competitive. I would like to see King play a couple in the 2's just so he can get full games under his belt and not be under the pressure he is at the moment. Its a sad day when Sandilands chops you up.

chambers was hopeless until the last qtr, and against Matt Primus who wasnt really in great form either.

I've got full confidence in Steven King and the use of him by the coaching staff.

We need to persist with him.

The captaincy issue is on the other hand.................

The crowd near me have started to turn on him, and they cheer every time he gets a kick (which wasn't often). They also gave him the bronx cheer when he took a mark. He could be the next target for supporters, just like Ben Graham was.

Unfortunately, I have to agree, there is definately something not quite right with Kingy ATM, he seems to be worried where his direct opponent is weather he be in the ruck or a marking contest. IMO he seems a little intimidated and it is affecting his game. 'Soft' is probably a word I would use at the moment, I don't think that puting him in the 2's is the answer though he is definately in our best 22. He is our biggest/most imposing player but he is not playing like he is. He is getting out muscled to easily. I am sure he will get back to his dual AA form very soon, but it must be playing on Bombers mind as well!

What i don't get is people complaining about him not having a physical presence this year.

The bloke has played 162 games for our club and has never had a physical presence, nor has he ever been a good mark.

He's playing bad football, but to suddenly expect to him run through packs is ludicrous.

No one asking him to do that. Take Ottens as an example, when the ball is on the deck he goes on the deck and gets it. King does not. He needs to tackle players hard, go into packs and get the ball.

No one is asking him to play like a barry Hall or Jonothan Brown. Just asking for more commitment, which is fair.

My point is that he's never had a huge physical presence.

It's not like this year he's suddenly gone from a strong, hard at it ruckman to a soft ruckman.

He's always been a finesse type.

Is it possible to just not have a captain? Every player who gets the job at Geelong seems to end up with either:

- a career threatening/impairing injury
- a form slump
- a desire to no longer be captain
- a desire to leave the club
- a combination of any of the above

How about just rotating the coin tossing duties through the whole team and be done with it? You'd probably have to go back to Bairstow to find a player who managed to captain and consistently produce on the field over a period of time.

Bit worried about what might happen to Lingy :(
