AN assistant restaurant manager claims St Kilda ruckman Steven King attacked him without provocation in the early hours after Grand Final day.
The former Geelong captain - who marries his fiancee in Bali today - is facing a compensation claim of up to $100,000 in Melbourne Magistrates' Court.
The alleged victim launched the civil action on Friday after claiming he was offered free football tickets as compensation.
No criminal charges have been laid and King's manager, Ricky Nixon, said: "I have investigated (the claims) and don't think that Steven has any concerns."
King could not be contacted because he is in Bali to wed model Danielle Atkin.
The alleged victim's lawyer, Larry Dent, of Arnold Thomas & Becker, said the alleged attack was "extraordinary".
He said his client "John" - who does not want to be identified - was shocked by the incident.
John claimed St Kilda offered him a few free football tickets, while Mr Nixon made an "inadequate" offer.
He made a statement to police on Monday, but officers would not confirm any investigation on Friday, saying they would comment only if charges were laid.
Mr Dent said his client alleged he was assaulted by King twice in Fitzroy St, St Kilda, in the early hours of September 29.
John was with a friend from Chile, whom he was urging to follow football, when he saw King and called out a greeting, Mr Dent said.
He said King allegedly hit John in the throat and he fell to the ground outside the Robata bar.
"John recovered and started to walk to his car, which was co-incidentally in the same direction as Mr King had walked," he said.
"Mr King was with another man and this man started remonstrating with my client in a most aggressive manner.
"Mr King came up behind the other man and threw a punch, hitting John in the face."
The alleged attack was not provoked and his client was not drunk, he said.
"John recognised Mr King and called out 'Hey, Kingy, how are you going?'," he said.
"It is possible Mr King thought John was involved in the earlier argument."
He said John suffered throat and facial injuries, a black eye, bruising and shock and was claiming aggravated and punitive damages.
St Kilda spokesman Matt Schmidt said he was aware of an allegation against King, but denied the club had offered football tickets to the alleged victim.

Pretty poor from the big guy if this is the case. I always thought of him as a big dopey bloke and never imagined that he had a mean bone in his body. That said though, he did try and belt up Mr (might get better one day) Blake when the two teams met this year. I bet Jeff White doesn't think he's a gentle giant either. Regardless, I hope it all works out for the all involved though. :thumbsu:

Bloke recognises Steven King at a bar, sues him for $100k

If I had had just been assaulted by a muscle bound giant I would definitely follow him to the car park, and I would definitely make no attempts to defuse a hostile situation after his friend saw me following this sizeable individual.

The White incident is irrelevant.

I was at the same school as King (a few years younger) and he never showed signs of being violent. Sure he was a typical footy boy, but better than most.

Some ****wit milking nothing for something IMO.

King got the absolute crap punched out of him at a Geelong nightclub one night a few years back.

He put a bikies jacket on that was hanging on a chair and was told by the bikie to take it off, King just laughed at the bloke and refused, then he was warned a 2nd time but King being the drunken ******** smart a$$ that he is refused again, the rest is history.... what an idiot.

From all of the Geelong footballers i've seen out over the years King is by far the worst drunk i've ever seen.

I had words with him myself one night, which i won't go into detail, but i can tell you on that particular night he got escorted out by the bouncers a short time later.

Not one of his teamates that were there with him on the night even stuck up for him due to the fact that they all know how much of a ****wit he is on the sauce.

I hope he gets what he deserves if he's proven guilty in this latest indiscretion, a long time coming as far as i'm concerned.

Are you saying that a Geelong player had the "absolute crap punched out of him at a Geelong nightclub" and it never became a public story? I find this exceptionally hard to believe. If a Geelong player sneezed loudly in a Geelong nightclub it would be front page on the Addy.

Are you sure that you aren't exaggerating a minor incident for the purposes of your story?

No mate, true story.

I was there witnessed the whole lot, AND know the bloke that owns the jacket....no BS OR exaggeration just plain truth and fact.

On both occasions he was kicked out of the nightclub and put in a cab.

I didn't realise the Geelong Addy followed the players around every Saturday night.

If you say so.

I am just finding it almost impossible to believe that an incident as bad as a player having the "absolute crap punched out of him" in a nightclub never made the papers.

That's ok i understand that in your belief if it wasn't in the local rag then it never happened.

Not everything makes the papers.

You really do have to wonder about someone that takes Civil action before laying criminal charges.

I like how the $100,000 is plucked out of thin air, sound like someone trying to make a few dollars.

The story sounds very sketchy, but there are a few negative reports about King here as well. The Geelong boys are like everyone else though really, David Johnson, King, whoever, we've all seen them out on the weekends well and truely sauced up. I think it's fair to believe King been towelled up and it not been reported by the addy.

Anyway, thankfully for us, this is no longer really Geelong's business.

Any of those anti-scarlett people read into the fact that King and Scarlett are the best of buddies?

Ah, I hope it's not true :( I have my doubts that King, or any other player, would assault someone for yelling out "Hey, how's it going!"

Maybe he was dirty at Blake's efforts during the GF and thought if he'd been there things might have been different. I think I'd want to punch someone then too ;)

to wed model Danielle Atkin.
