Ruckman Steven King has been reappointed Geelong captain for 2006.

The club announced on Wednesday that King, who has held the position since 2003, would lead the club into battle for a fourth season.

The Cats' vice-captain and deputy vice-captain will come from the remaining six members of the club's leadership group - Paul Chapman, Joel Corey, Tom Harley, Cameron Ling, Cameron Mooney and Matthew Scarlett.

The vice-captain and deputy vice-captain will be announced at a media conference at Skilled Stadium on Friday.

The addy this morning says there'll be three VCs named out of the rest of the leadership group. I'd like to see Ling, Corey and Chapman but I think we're more likely to see Ling Harley and Scarlett.

Ling, Mooney, Harley, surely. (Similar suffixes unintentional).
Good to see the big man rewarded for his battles to keep the captaincy with his injury. When he is fit and firing (WC game, Melbourne game), the whole team lifts like you wouldn't believe. It was like we had King of old back again; it was like greeting a long-lost son.

SHELLIE, u have got to b kidding.
Moons as a vc or anything to do with leadership.
Just get his head right for playing -- dont burden him with anything xtra :D

Not sure if its the right move , or rather lack of move. King has been so dogged with injuries , that Id just like to see him get back to being a respected and feared ruckmen who has durability.
Ling might not be the perfect choice but he is resiliant and eats up leadership demands.

Do u know anything? Of course he's a perfect choice - the boys look up to him (and Kingy) more than anyone else.

However right at the present time, why strip King of the leadership role? - if anything it would just dint his self-confidence even more than it is ... he still 'leads' better than every player on the list (with the exception of ling) therefore he is rightly our captain.

When King decides to give the leadership role up, or when he calls it a day, then we will give the Lingy the title - until then good move Cattas.

Sorry, I just have alot of faith in him thats all. I'll neva forget the look on his face and the tears after Sydney. That guy just bleeds Geelong.. but im not too fussed, who eva they give it to is ok with me! They're all good candidates.

Might wanna do your research buddy. Cam Mooney has already been named in the leadership group for 2006.

Shell,

I could not agree with you more. Cam would make a fantastic DVC as long as he keeps his head right.

He is such an important player to us. How good were his finals performances last year?

Thanks for that! I dont know why exactly I have a renewed faith in him, i just do.. hopefully he'll prove us right 2006. I also know directly from someone who used to live with him, back in his early North days, that he is one awesome, genuinely nice guy. Kinda the opposite persona u could say he has on the football field! :D

I'm pretty confident that Moondog has matured enough to warrant the selection of a deputy VC. We won't see any repeat of the brain malfunctions of the past.

No worries at all and i'm sure he'll prove us right in 2006.

I too hear from a personal friend (well his ex girlfriend) what a great guy he is.

He is the perfect leader. A leadership role would give him a greater sense of purpose on the field which IMO would benefit his performances.

As much as I love Mooney and admire how much he has matured and improved the last couple of seasons, there's one guy no one has mentioned - Matthew Scarlett. Has been clearly our best player for at least the last 3 seasons, is our one out and out superstar. If anyone deserves the deputy vice captain spot it's him.

That sounds fair enough. I'm not sure if Cam has the necessaries for leadership, and putting him in the leadership group should be a good experience.

Not entirely convinced that the brain fades are gone just yet.

The 3 vice captains are officially Ling, Harley and Scarlett.

No surprises there...

King having his best pre-season in ages: :thumbsu:
"I'm not sure if I will be ready for the first pre-season game, but I'm giving myself the best pre-season I've had for the last four or five years," he said.

It looks like the club have conceded that King will be struggling again with injury this year and that the problems he has are chronic. This was a quote from Thompson in realfooty

We want a team full of leaders, and we are serious about trying to establish as many leaders as we possibly can . . . at some stage this year, they'll captain the club
