Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is an open-world action role-playing game set in Amalur, a mysterious and magical new fantasy world created by New York Times bestselling author R. A. Salvatore. Brought to life visually through the trademark style of renowned artist and Spawn creator Todd McFarlane, Reckoning brings a new level of visual style and visceral action combat to the RPG genre. The game is being developed under the leadership of Ken Rolston, lead designer of the critically acclaimed RPGs Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.

Looks a bit like Skyrim, but all in all looks like a good-very good RPG game.
Will be a sale from me when it comes out.

definitely got a "hardcore" Fable vibe from the demo and I really liked it:thumbsu:

Will be getting it day 1 as well, Leaning towards a stealth character, maybe with a few points in scorcery

yeah definitely looks like PS3's answer to fable...should be a ripper game. But might wait for it to come down in price and for reviews...still in my top 3 upcoming games to get after "I am alive"

But enough about all of that. Reckoning's strongest point is its gameplay, but what does that mean, exactly? It means, quite simply, that I've never played an action-oriented RPG that plays bette

Combine this combat with Amalur's incredibly thorough questing system -- which involves a main story you could wrap up in 25 hours or so -- and you'll find one meaty adventure. And don't let that 25 hour number fool you. There are five guild arcs that could take five or 10 hours each, and side quests and ancillary exploration that could easily eat up at least another 100 hours of your time.

I'll come right out and say it: Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning will be discussed when Game of the Year 2012 rolls around. It has brought the conversation about what combat can be in the role-playing genre to the forefront and sets the bar exceptionally high for its future contemporaries in the genre. But don't let its competition-shaming gameplay lull you into think that that's all this game has to offer, because that's just gloss on an overall package that's bound to impress the RPG faithful.

Quite a good first review, the only negatives they had where graphical and technical

Demo wasn't too exciting, felt like too much of a grind and I ended up not playing it fully (did a few quests in Gorhart), just put the controller down and let the demo timer run out (to receive an unlockable item for Mass Effect 3).

It reminds me so much of Fable, I think it's just the cartoon-like graphics that make it seem like Fable though.

I think its more of the fact you only have 45 minutes to do stuff, it really put me off playing after 10 minutes because there wasnt really much point.

The demo did give a good feel for the gameplay tho, it was fantastic, combat was fluent and the storyline seemed interesting. Thinking about pre-ordering this. Anyone know the official release date?

Re: Kingdom of Amalur-Reckoning

I've had it for a few days and am enjoying it so far. Sort of like a Skyrim/Fable hybrid.

Pros
Fast Paced
Fighting is better than Skyrim (not that that is saying much)
Fighting animations kick ass
Easy to play, don't need alot of concentration
Can respec all of your skills at Fateweavers so can play a different style whenever you want

Cons
Maybe a bit too easy although rapid exploration brings you across some higher powered enemies
Not really getting into storyline as much as Skyrim
Side quests are a bit tedious after a while

Overall, an enjoyable game, would give it 7.5/10

Re: Kingdom of Amalur-Reckoning

It's a fun game, and some of the questlines are really solid, but its way, way too damn easy, even on hard.

Re: Kingdom of Amalur-Reckoning

yeah it's a bit too easy for my liking and the world just isn't interesting. But the main quests are solid enough and there's just enough loot to keep me playing more

Re: Kingdom of Amalur-Reckoning

Shortly after posting my comments my character levelled to the point that it became insanely easy, thus boring, so will revise my score to 6/10.

Dissapointing.

Re: Kingdom of Amalur-Reckoning

this game became mind numbingly boring after the 20 hour or so mark. Combat is too easy, quests and story are boring and I feel like this is the most linear open world I've ever played. The game just funnels you from left of the the map all the way through to the right through a series of little pockets

This game would have been so much better if they condensed it onto a solid 30 hour experience rather than a drawn out 60 hour chore

Re: Kingdom of Amalur-Reckoning

About the same perceptions. Game froze on me about 20 hours in and I don't think I'll bother playing it again.

Re: Kingdom of Amalur-Reckoning

I've only heard bad things about it from both reviews and friends alike.
