Nick Maxwell was asked last night if Collingwood would prefer to play more games interstate given our good travel record. To which he answered something along the lines of us wanting to play as many games at the MCG as possible.

Fair enough. Naturally, we should play all our home games at the MCG.

But would it be better to play away to the Bulldogs at Etihad, or Freo in Perth? St Kilda at Etihad, or Port Adelaide at AAMI stadium?

As an interstate supporter, it's pretty obvious what my thoughts are. Our team is probably the most national team in this national competition, and it's good for the strength of our team that we play as much as we can in front of all those loyal fans across the country - and try to recruit new ones.

I wonder how many Collingwood fans go to the away games in Melbourne? (obviously blockbusters aside). I was surprised to find out that there were only 38000 spectators that went to the Bulldogs game at Etihad this year.

I'm in Perth and see the team here once a year. They didnt sell Collingwood memberships to WA people this year because there are only 1000 seats available at Subiaco oval to members from non-WA clubs. Maybe I should try to say that more clearly. There are probably 45,000 seats available at subi oval and 44,000 are taken by eagle and dockers fans....

...so its no good trying to grow the number of magpie supporters over here because only about 1000 can get to see their team.

Its a good idea for Collingwood to travel a lot to grow their fan base...but a better way to do it is to win premierships

as for the low crowd at the WB game, it was their home game and many of our supporters only go to their "membership" games..

I live in Brisbane and now the Suns are in the comp,I'm confident I'll see them up here at least once a year for the foreseeable future.

I usually go to the Sydney game and a couple in Melbourne each year + finals, so I see enough anyway.

Interesting when they interviewed Scott Watters on Gameday, that he indicated traveling is a great way for players to bond together and really focus on the game at hand. Funny considering the biggest bleaters about our fixture are St.Kilda supporters and they are going to sell home games to NZ.

He obviously has this attitude after spending time with us and saw how we turned travelling into a positive thing.

14 from 15 and 19 from 22 says we go OK.

1000 seats for away members? That's terrible! Are they looking to upgrade Subiaco at all?

New stadium being planned now, should be built by 2018 and will initially hold 60k. The premier wants 10k seats promised for the general public so I don't see the opposition member seats rising too much. Either way WA pies memberships only sold out last year and this year so will be available again if we go down the ladder.
