When i was growing up i adored Queen and Freddy. Thought they were the dogs bollocks and still do. I still love listening to either of them depending on my mood. So you can definately love both.

This has very little to do with anything, just felt like sharing! :)

I had Lick It Up in my head as i was writing the post... As i think about it, you're probably quite right!
 
Ask the average Joe to name all the Queen songs they know vs how many Kiss songs they know and Queen would woin about 10 to 2.

In terms of popularity, Kiss may have have been slightly more popular in Australia, certainly in Melbourne.

But worldwide Queen were a long way no.1 in the likes of Brazil and Japan and would have been in front.

20-30 years later, Queen are miles in front.

I don't agree with that

I think Eric Carr was easily the best musician that's been part of a Kiss line up (special mention to Ace). A technically great drummer. And a little bit of trivia for you, he died on the exact same day that Freddie Mercdury did... Makes this thread all the more relvant! :D

Same here. Couldn't stand Kiss, thought they were the worst band going round. Around that time Mi-Sex had released COMPUTER GAMES, GRAFFITI CRIMES & PEOPLE which I still think are great songs. Also a big DEVO fan and got beaten up numerous times by Kiss fans for continually quoting "We're all DEVO" or "Are we not Men? We are Devo" a which is how I ended up with nickname.


My choice would be Queen.

Good to see another Mi-Sex fan. Unfortunately they never quite lived up to the expectations thrust upon them. The follow up album to Space Race (Shangheid) was ordinary, however I did like the album Where Do They Go?

By Whom?? Molly Meldrum!!! I think they faulted when they tried to 'soften' their sound for the US market.

Agree with about Shangheid, but other than BLUE DAY, "Where do They Go?" was IMO their most dissappointing album, for the reason mentioned above.

I like how we have hijacked this thread and turned it into a Mi-Sex appreciation thread.

They probably exceeded expectations as a band in Oz as their first single Straight Laddie didn't do much. But they seemed to generate a bit of a following and this obviously helped with the release of Computer Games (I think it was released twice and the first time did nothing). I think the expectation was in the US market which they never quite broke into. I remember reading a story where when they arrived in LA they were greeted by people dressed up in Space suits similar to their album cover.

Where do they go? certainly was more MOR type music for the American market. But there were a couple of decent songs on the album - i haven't listened to it for a very very long time. I can't even remember some of the songs titles.
 
Well I'd heard of KISS before I'd heard of Queen so to me, KISS were bigger!! I hadn't heard much of either of them til a few years back when my sister got into Queen a bit, and then when I met my fiance I listened to some of his KISS stuff, and I tend to like them better. Queen just never really interested me.

I tried to hijack the thread, but I think I'm failing.

I remember a few years ago someone did a cover of COMPUTER GAMES. It was probably the worst piece of music I ever heard in my entire life. They total defiled and desecrated a Aussie 'semi' Classic. Can't for the life of me remember who it was, which is probably a good thing.

It was a shame about their US adventure. They tried to crack the market around the same time as Men at Work, but didn't have the material and crashed and burned shortly afterwards. Oh well, they left us with a dozen or so half decent tunes.

I think their lead singer died about 10-12 years ago as well. Not sure about that.

The great man, Steve Gilpin, died in early 1992 after a car accident left him in a coma in Northern NSW in November 1991 (for some I reason I think the car accident may have occurred on the same day as Freddie Mercury died - don't quote me on this)

Kiss had 200,000 at a concert in Brazil @ The Maracana, pretty sure that this is a world record for any gig. Kiss or Queen ? Kiss easy , brilliant live.
