Aint it typical.....the Kiwis cant win at something (legally) so what do they do CHEAT so that no-one else is able to win.
I hope that this current episode SLAPS you in the face.

When has New Zealand ever needed to cheat to win? It's certainly not the Black Caps setting ILLEGAL fields.

I don't see a difference between this and what Fleming did the other night?

Other than Australia trying to win their match there wasn't much difference.

NZ would have won the match if they could, however when that was out of reach they did the smart thing.

Yes, like RSA were trying to win on Sunday. Right. The check's in the mail.

I have no problem with the teams doing what they did. They played within the rules to achieve an end, much as Australia did in WC99. What happened does however leave our neighbors unable to whinge too much about it (WC99) anymore

Doesn't anyone remember the "underarm" delivery??

It was well within the rules. Like Chapell all those years ago.

Poor sportsman ship maybe, boring cricket maybe, with in the rules? Yes.

Australia just wasn't good enough, plain and simple...

Meanwhile, Trescothicks 95 of 80 against India the other night, thats what crickets all about :D :D :p :p

Off course we all remember the underarm delivery That was 20 years ago....last century.this is 21st century not 20th....wake up to yourselves.Even the kiwi captain admitted that they didnt want to play the Aussies....they might get beaten.....what a pack of WIMPS

Is it really that important to you?

I'll think you will find most Kiwi supporters didn't really care what happened in that WC99 game v the Windies.

Who cares if New Zealand makes the semis? Their chances of winning any final are so slim that you lower your expectation anyway.

Our WC was made after the Black Caps defeated Australia.

Right now I don't really care that much about the finals either. Winning would be nice, but I'm more worried about Cairns being a broken arse with the English already in New Zealand.

i dont know why, considering they have beaten us 4 out of 5 times we have played each other.

and they dont want to be facing sa considering sa have got a 16-1 record over them.

and bluecrow the point im trying to make is that steve waugh won his match fleming didnt.

Could we just get a couple of things straight here?

Firstly, New Zealand started the run chase against South Africa like a bull out of a gate. They clearly wanted to win. The point at which everyone started to moan about cheating came when they were 8 wickets down, with Parore and Vettori batting. Perhaps Cairns and McMillan could be expected to bat aggressively, but Parore and Vettori? If you can seriously mount a case that they could win the match from there, and it was worth going for, that would be a different matter. But the game was lost - they'd given up too many wickets chasing runs and they weren't going to win anyway. The match wasn't thrown.

Secondly, the South African run chase against us was probably a lost cause from the start, and under the circumstances the score they got (somewhere around 250-260 from memory) was a pretty good fist. They had two objectives, not one - the first was to get past the bonus point mark, the ultimate was to win. No team successfully chased 283 in this series - no-one even looked like it - and their score was the second highest. What do you want from them?

Accusations of cheating and playing tactics - Fleming's self-incrimination included - are a load of baloney, and sour grapes from this nation's supporters.

New Zealand acted within the rules set up in this competition. No gripes from me.

To stop this happening in the future make Net Run Rate the first tie-breaker and deduct bonus points from teams beaten instead of awarding bounus points to the winning team. That should go a long way to stopping this situation happening again.

One day cricket is still hit and giggle in my mind. I can only really get interested in Test Cricket, that's the real stuff where players reputations are forged and where legends are made.
