So the lesson here is to not play in high stakes cash games - no matter how much money you have - if you lack something important... such as a brain.

So you thought you had the best hand and went all in? This was something I used to do, and got called by the occasional sucker, but if you're playing in such a high stakes game there's no point. 90% of the time the only time you're gonna get a call is when you're behind. If you're genuinely pretty sure you have the best hand why not try to get some value from it?

Obviously with a set of aces he's gonna re-raise but at least you have some more information to piece together what he has. Sure, even with a re-raise it's gonna be a huge lay down but suppose he has A - K. Even with top two pair on that board it's pretty unlikely I'd call an all in given the pre-flop action but with a smaller bet I'd probably have a look. With an all-in it's pretty cut and dry, you either get a call when you're probably beat or you have the best hand and win a lot less than you could've.

Big footy admin has let me stay on here until 6:00pm tonight

goone :)

I was at Burswood last night and Kings were brutalised 4 times, all by aces (2 of them pockets) and funnily enough they were all from the same chair.

1. I had aces early position and raised. Gets around to the player with Kings and he reraises me enough to put me all in (about $450). Ace came up on the flop. Hand over.

2. Very next hand same player had kings again and came up against a player acting under the gun who raised preflop without looking at his cards (I am not kidding about this). Player with Kings goes all in. Player who raised originally looks at his cards, calls then shows the rockets  .

What are the odds of that happening. Player with kings 2 hands in a row running into rockets 2 hands in a row.

3. A couple of hours later a new player sat down in the bogie seat and he bought in for the maximum ($1000) for the table. He was under the gun preflop. He has pocket kings very first hand and without hesitation goes all in preflop. He came up against ace jack suited and lost it with an ace on the flop.

that's pretty sick for the guy who had his cowboys outjousted twice in two hands. I don't think I could handle that.

It just goes to show how much better aces are than kings. You have kings, queens, big slick suited, all good hands. Aces are a huge step above. People that say they prefer kings to aces (because they are easier to lay down when beat, ect) haven't been on the recieving end enough.

TBH, I don't mind losing with kings against pocket aces, it's the same with any pocket pair against a higher pair. But I simply can't take being outdrawn again and again by people who insist on calling/going all in with ace/10+ against persistent reraisers who they know they will be racing at best, and even possibly dominated.
