Knights on Talking Footy last night

Anyone else see Talking Footy last night?
Knighter was on and though composed was not happy.
Sheeds asked him if he would consider playing for someone else next year.
Sheeds also asked him what Richmond needed to get back to the top. His answer............ Richmond people.
Said Bartlett and Northey were the 2 best coaches he played under.
Asked about being asked to retire he said "I can't do much about it. Danny's the coach of the Richmond Football Club..... for the moment so I have to abide by his decision".
Why he followed with "for the moment" I don't know but it does worry me. A couple of other things Knights said made me nervous.
I hope to hell the whole place isn't going to implode again.

Also last year when the club was experiencing problems with the Salary cap and trying to re-sign Gasper and Holland the club asked Knights to take a pay cut and in exchange offered to extend his contract. Knights told them to get stuffed. Think this might be payback.

I'm also tipping Knights will nominate for the draft. Could be a good bargain pickup for the right club, albeit only for one season. He definitely looks to still have the desire. I've seen some pretty ordinary recycled players picked up late in the draft. He also seems to have a point to make. I'm going to make a big call and say Essendon will pick Knights up late in the draft.

In Dannys defence...(and I might be wrong)

...no-one could expect Knighta not to resent what has happened...but :

IMHO..he hasn't really been in stunning form for some years....and Spud knows just how much he takes up on the salary cap..we don't.

Unfortunately all star players expect their pay to go up...even as their talents go in reverse. It's chronological increase.

End of the day, Knights and Daffy are proof that Spud won't settle for older well paid players hanging round and not performing.

That's a good thing.

That's how I want the footy dept. run.

Spuds game plan has been obvious from day 1. Enter Fiora, Coughlan, Cameron, Rodan, Krak'r etc.... get talented smaller guys who can run through the lines and hit team mates.

team mates like Otto and Richo.

Great player Knights...will be well remembered...but his talk on fox footy is one thing...his impact on the field the last 2 years is another.

Richmond needs its players on top dollar...performing at top level.
And they haven't been.
Expect more casualties.

Whatever salary Knights is/was on, it's halved anyway - he's on the vets list.

Which makes me think ... was Knighter moved on to create room to put a couple of other players who ARE still under contract in 2003 on the veteran's list. You know, Campbo, Rogers, Duncan, etc... maybe two of them are up for 10 years of service and 30 years of age ... or whatever the criteria is.

yep I saw him and talking footy and yes he did have some very interesting things to say.I thought Knights would retire at the end of this season so I can't really see him playing next year.Knights has been an exellcent player but I think he would be a bad idea for him to play next year he hasn't played very well in the 2 years.very interesting that there is all this stuff about Knights playing for Essendon next year maybe Sheedy had a talk to Knights after talking footy.
