Knights to coach Bendigo
Essendon has snared former Richmond captain Matthew Knights to coach the Bendigo Bombers in the VFL next season.
Knights, who played 279 games with Richmond between 1988 and 2002, coached the Port Adelaide Magpies in the SANFL last season, with the club narrowly missing out on a finals berth.
He replaces Peter Banfield, who has taken over as coach of Springvale.
"It is great news for the club," Bendigo Bombers general manager Paul Barnard told essendonfc.com.au.
"I think we all saw when he played that he has an astute football brain and I'm sure he will be a major positive for us."
Knights captained Richmond for four seasons between 1997-00. He won the Tigers' best-and-fairest in 1990 and 1992 and was an All-Australian representative in 1998.
