At the moment, he's playing on reputation alone. Extremely poor for the past few weeks, and I was commenting today that his impact is like what we would expect from McEvoy if he was getting a game.

Minimal stats, not having a physical impact, and certainly not a player we can expect to stand up and make a difference. So frustrating because he is the wild card for us in September.

If he plays to his ability as a swingman, we are a chance against any other side in the eight other than Geelong.

Come on Kosi !

Agreed - no impact

Did I mention he should play CHB?

Try it this week against the bombers, bring in Allen (kicked 4) put him at FF with Gwilt and give kosi license in the back 50. He can turn a game from there no doubt

Come on Kosi, don't prove me right on you. I want to eat humble pie all september long!!

Just when you think he has turned the corner (by playing an alright match) he keeps following up with poor perfomances. Been the story of his year. Dissapointing.

We have played both Gwilt and Allen at FF and guess how many goals they've got between them playing there? Zero.

Koschitzke has been disappointing all year, which is disappointing for us because if he's so important to our structure and if he played even half as good as he should we'd be pressing for top 4, if not there already. BUT he shits on any other option we have at FF. Every single one of them. Allen, Gwilt, Ferguson, Gardiner, they've all failed. He's been poor all year but he's still in our best 22.

I'd like to see Big Ben given a crack at a third tall/ruckman role next week and see how he goes, but realistically he'd be unlikely to outperform Kosi.

I know Kosi does jack shit. But I think he is very important.

Think about it, if we dont have Kosi, that gives us really only the one decent tall forward - Roo. And with only him in the forward line, it allows other teams to double team him, he doesnt have as much impact and we lose.

With Kosi in the team, even though he doesn't do as much, he still takes a good defender. He can take a good grab, bust open a pack, and provide a second option. And if a team thinks he's not worthy of their 2nd best defender then we can exploit that and kick to Kosi instead of Roo.

Kosi in FF gives Roo more freedom, so while he doesn't get much of the ball, I think he's still very important to our structure.

Time for Macca for mine.

Poor old Kos is just running around like a drunk at the minute.

Yes, he can bust a game apart in a short period but I think someone said on another thread if he starts poorly he's stuffed for the game i.e. can't get his confidence back during a game.

Maybe we should take the punt on some steroids in the hope that his energy levels will still be so low he won't register a positive drug test (hey it works for the Chinese weightlifters).

When there was a poor kick by the Crows in defence he had the chance to attack it and crash through an opponent, but held back and then fell over.

He also came onto the ground and just stood there rather than presenting with purpose when we were struggling to bring it out of defence.

Then took a mark on the stretch from a good pass (I think from Lenny). I was right behind it and as soon as he dropped the ball ... well I think I was having roast duck for dinner. Why practice one technique and use a completely different one in the game? At least make the ball spin properly - surely not too much to ask from a set shot!!!

Most people seem to recognise that the gap between our best and worst is enormous, and we have to put four quarters together consistently.

Someone please give me a silver lining with this one, as Fehring is going to come after me if I continue.

He basically took both Riewoldt and Rutten flying with the ball straight into his body in the first minutes of the 1st quarter - not a great way to start a game (could be another candidate for mark of the year - but if I remember correctly, Riewoldt then hit the outer post from his kick).

I think that Gehrig should get a game against Essendon (as likely to play finals as McEvoy). I would also play Koschitzke though - he should hopefully build up some confidence against an undermanned Essendon backline and non-Hille ruck division.

Btw, Baker is now confirmed out for the season (from Saints.com : Stephen Baker - Knee (arthroscopy), season).

It's hard to work out what has gone wrong.
Injury wise the last two seasons have been his best since 2001 when he started, but somehow the spark is missing.
Maybe the scull crack caused more than just physical damage.

Apart from what we are seeing on the field ( or not seeing ), statistically he has had less disposals than he did in 2001. Last year as a ruckman he kicked just as many goals as he did this year as a forward! He has had a similar number of kicks but far fewer disposals this year.

It would be interesting to be able to talk to him and find out what is going wrong. I just hope he is having an "annus horribilis" ( or is that what Venus Williams has? ) and can have a good preseason next year and get his act together.

That's not a bad idea actually. I mean it's not like the G-Train ever lost any of his ability, he just got old and struggled with his body. Now that he's off the injury list and with most of the season spent training but not undergoing the rigours of footy he might be fresh and right to go. Bearing in mind even in his crippled state he still kicked 4 against Carlton this year, I think he might be worth trying and this weekend is the last chance we have to give him a shot before we're stuck with an out of form Kosi for the rest of the year, as we obviously can't risk bringing him in in finals.

JUSTIN Koschitzke could be a finals wildcard for St Kilda according to fellow forward Stephen Milne.

Koschitzke’s form has been inconsistent for much of this year but his teammate Milne says he could be ready to step up in September.

“Kosi’s played some great footy and I reckon he’s only a step around the corner from playing a good game,” Milne said.

“He’s done bits and pieces and he’s just got to get four quarters together and he’ll be alright. He’ll be a handy asset in the finals.”

One St Kilda forward in top form at the moment is skipper Nick Riewoldt, who Milne said was a source of inspiration to his teammates.

“The way Rooey goes about it is amazing. He’s a great player and hopefully he can keep it going in the next few weeks,” Milne said.

“He’s had a few good years. He’s won four Trevor Barker medals (St Kilda best and fairest) so it’s hard to say if this is the best form he’s ever been in,” Milne said.

“The way he’s leading around the place on and off the field, Rooey’s setting an example for everyone to follow. That’s why we’re going so well, because our leaders are performing.”

Milne has been enjoying his own personal purple patch recently, having booted 47 goals this season.

While no one loves a goal more than the man they call ‘Yapper’, Milne says he still enjoys the chance to push up the ground and play in the midfield.

“It’s good to get up every now and then and mix it up. You get a bit lonely down there and you do have to get a few different tricks up your sleeve,” he said.

“To get up there and get involved is a lot better than staying down forward off limited opportunities.”

This photograph makes me wonder if he really got over his head injury.

I'm starting to sense that Kosi suffers from a condition that I've seen in other often-injured players... I get the sense Xavier has had it at times. It's when "I'm just happy to be here" becomes more than a silly cliche to them, and they start to be happy just to be playing AFL at all. That's their triumph, their "Grand Final", the mountain they've climbed - actually being able to play out a game. This is totally understandable, but not very healthy. Somebody like a sports psychologist needs to help them get back to appreciating that getting back on the field is only a means to an end, and that end is winning a flag.

Great to see him get around and have some touches, but the media has lost the plot and think he's the X factor.

Took a nice pack mark, but butchered the ball on a number of occasions with poor decisions. Very ordinary in front of goal again.

Was up against a 19 year old who has played 3 games and pretty much had to ruck solo.

Thoughts? (now we have calmed down a little from Sunday's highs)

No doubt he is the X factor.

Can take a contested mark and these are rare gold in today's game.

Forward line was a little Rooey conscious at times yesterday and need to look for the big fella more often.

I thought he had his best game of the season - he played basically everywhere, had a lot of touches, was generally involved and appeared interested and should have gained a lot of confidence.

Yes, he should have had at least one goal - but hey, we still kicked a total of 21 goals.
