KOUTA - CHB-FF-CHF OR MIDFIELD???

Personally i think there is nothing like seeing a full steam ahead Kouta come charging out of the middle with the ball in 1 hand, but sometimes I think he'd be great at CHB driving the ball forward!
I can't remember him playing a great game at CHF, but he's done well before at FF!

Pozzo, agree mate, but we've lost McKay, Manton has retired and Beaumont has been traded. We really need some experience down back. With the now very likely addition of Nick Stevens and with new players like Scotland, Johnson and dare I say it Harford, add Campo, Pup, McMormick, Houlihan and Houlihan to rotate through the midfield, why not try him down at CHB..

yeh, we could try him there. if it works well then it'll be good, but another point i said but kinda missed in my previous thread was, in a year when we were down in defence, pagan didnt put kouta down there, so more than likely he doesnt see kouta very valueble down there.

I may be way off beam here but I think Kouta and the team may benefit by him being used in a "floating" role ala Hird whereas he goes to assist in a position that we may be struggling in, whether Pagan gives him the freedom to do that is another matter.

That's a bit of a stretch. We all know what Kouta's best role is but team needs have to come first and all top players make sacrifices for the good of the team. To suggest that it is an anti-Pagan comment is ludicrous.

That might be an issue except for the fact that the salary of a coach is not included under the cap or putting it another way .. Total Player Payments.

Gotta be in the midfield. From what we saw of him last season, he doesn't have the leap or leg speed to contest in the air like he used to be able to. Perhaps a strong, uninterrupted preseason will help him regain some of his aerial capabilities, but otherwise he'd be better in the midfield where he can feed the ball out to Stevens, Scotland, Camporeale etc.

Exactly the point I was trying to make, with an improved midfield there is no need to "flog him to death" by playing him there all the time. He can take a breather by sometimes playing up forward, or maybe helping in the defensive area. He looked to be exhausted towards the end of last year because he HAD to play in the midfield.

I think that's the key to Kouta next season. Carlton can't rely on him for any position other then as a midfielder, but he'd be more then handy up foward or down back in small spells while he's resting, IMO it beats putting him off all together unless he really needs the rest. He won't be able to hold down a KP like he used to be able to, but I'm confident he could help out the likes of Livingston and Thornton down back and help out up foward when Fevola and Big Red aren't firing or are been targetted for close attention from time to time, though his main focus and time has to be in the midfield.
