Carlton coach Denis Pagan has played down media reports that Blues skipper Anthony Koutoufides' season could be in doubt over continuing problems with his hamstring tendon.

Pagan has said that Koutoufides is ‘just a bit stiff’ and he rates his captain as more likely than not to lead the Blues against Brisbane at the Gabba on Saturday night.

“Even before last week he was very stiff in his back and his groin areas. He felt a little bit of a spasm on Tuesday and obviously we were pretty scared at that stage,” Pagan told SEN.

“He had a scan, the scan proved negative so there’s no further damage to the hamstring muscle or the scar tissue, so we’re treating it symptomatically.

“He’s probably a 65/35 chance to play this weekend. We’ll give him every chance to get rid of that stiffness and we’ll take a look at him tomorrow morning before we go up (to Brisbane).”

Koutoufides played his first senior match for the season against Collingwood last Saturday after being sidelined for ten weeks because of his hamstring tendon problem.

The tendon formed scar tissue after being used in a graft as part of a knee reconstruction in 2001.

“I got a bit of a surprise when I picked up the Sun this morning, but that’s life, we move on and they’re the facts,” Pagan said.

Carlton media manager Ian Coutts said he expected Koutoufides to be out on the track at training at Optus Oval this afternoon.

Maybe another week's rest for what will be a faster paced game on a firmer ground. I hope not as I haven't seen Kouta for a long time now and am dying to see the great man onfield live.

This is the same guy who posted a 'rumor' stating that "Kouta will injure himself".

I call it rubbish. They have scanned his hammy and it has no structural damage, and his scar tissue hasn't been torn off. I's a back-raled hamstring injury, where the hamstring is immflamed due to a pinched nerve. Larkins himself said that it's unrealated to his previous injury, and that it normally takes players such a short time to recover from it that they can play the next game.
