Apologies for any inconvenience. We will try to find a replacement.
**** hope Nick Watson's manager doesn't see this contract.
You kind of make it sound like nobody is as good nor ever will be as good Kozzie.
At least that's how it sounds to me.
How do you say this stuff so confidently. Have a guess which player is who for their first year. Melbourne don't have a monopoly on good players in the comp...yeah, I watched Kozzie have 24 and 5 goals 4 behinds against you guys.
I'm not saying Reid isn't a good young player. He is. But he's never going to be in the same stratosphere as a guy like Pickett who has what Reid will never have. Speed and athleticism.
Any reason people wanna ignore the actual comparison in Shai Bolton vs Kosi Pickett
Shai got 1.2 mill per year on a 5 year deal but he is also 3 years older. Very similar in stats. I dont see people going apeshit over Shais contract

Its at least 200k more and 4 more years. 4 more years at a higher amount is 4 more years for something to go wrong, regardless of his ageAny reason people wanna ignore the actual comparison in Shai Bolton vs Kosi Pickett

have you watched your own team play? When has Freo played where opposition players are so worried about Reid's speed and defensive pressure that they panic in his presence? How do you say this stuff so confidently. What would you prefer? Footy smarts and decision making or speed and athleticism?have you watched your own team play? When has Freo played where opposition players are so worried about Reid's speed and defensive pressure that they panic in his presence?
That's why I'm saying, these guys aren't replacements. They're different players. Even Harley Reid isn't a replacement, even if he turns out better, he's not a replacement because you're not replacing the skill set lost, you're investing it elsewhere.
Reid slid down the draft due to his lack in speed and athleticism, the 2 things that Pickett is valued for. So even if Reid becomes a good player, it's going to be due to footy smarts and decision making, not due to raw speed. So it'll never be a replacement.
You dont see much difference between a 5 year deal and a 9 year deal?
When one is 3 years younger not really…
The question is too general to answer. But there's probably only 3 or 4 players in the league with Pickett's athletic profile but around 100 players with footy smarts. Obviously, if you have raw speed and literally a scrub everywhere else then that's going to be an extreme. But let's say you lost Frederick, you're simply not going to be able to replace him. Because your team becomes instantly slower without him. What would you prefer? Footy smarts and decision making or speed and athleticism?
And would you pay more than 200k more than market value for 9 years for one over the other?
This is the dumbest thing ever. Well done man.have you watched your own team play? When has Freo played where opposition players are so worried about Reid's speed and defensive pressure that they panic in his presence?

So Reid should be given an 11 year contract offer then ?
So that's the answer then, you'd prefer the speed and athleticism because you think they are in smaller supply than players with footy nous. The question is too general to answer. it's not more than market value. De koning, Harley Reid, Finn Callaghan, Wanganeen-Milera are all going to be around the same mark I'm pretty sure. Pickett belongs in this bunch. So I think it's fine.
No-one gives a shit what goes on in WA.Any reason people wanna ignore the actual comparison in Shai Bolton vs Kosi Pickett

Thanks Stevooo, Your'e always ahead of the curve. Most definitely out the door = 9 year contract. No player that answers “I don’t really know yet, I haven’t really thought that far ahead,” when asked whether he is leaving is most definitely out the door. He loves the dees but its time to go home. Welcome to Freo Kozzie!
Melbourne is like North and St Kilda. They need to pay up to keep players at their club. You only pay those $$ with that term (the term is probably more the issue), if you’re attempting to get a player from another club. The question is too general to answer. once again. Too hard to measure. because you'd have to weigh up who would've been Pickett's replacement. Once again, you've failed to give us an actual name. Also, the effect of losing Gawn etc. There's too many moving parts. So that's the answer then, you'd prefer the speed and athleticism because you think they are in smaller supply than players with footy nous.
Fair enough, if that's Melbourne's prerogative then we'll see over the next 9 years how that strategy works out for them.
Freddy often gets criticised on our board for making poor decisions, some of us actually considered dropping him earlier in the year because of it. Brandon Walker has been in the same boat as well over his time with us.
It'll be interesting to see what mindset and gameplan turns out to be the right direction moving forward.
haha, he was gone till the Dees blew their salary cap on him. Well played by him... not so much your list management teamThanks Stevooo, Your'e always ahead of the curve. Most definitely out the door = 9 year contract.![]()
Im going to enjoy watching who gets pushed out of Melbourne for this contract.yeah coz that's what it costs to keep the players. it will be the same for WCE with Harley Reid.Melbourne is like North and St Kilda. They need to pay up to keep players at their club. You only pay those $$ with that term (the term is probably more the issue), if you’re attempting to get a player from another club.
Just as North paid up an excessive contract to retain LDU, St Kilda will likely need to do also to retain Wanganeen-Milera and Melbourne is on a similar level as those 2 clubs, hence the 9 yr contract.
haha, it was worth it just to prove you wrong.haha, he was gone till the Dees blew their salary cap on him. Well played by him... not so much your list management teamIm going to enjoy watching who gets pushed out of Melbourne for this contract.
and freo fans would be celebrating itlets not beat around the bush and lie to ourselves.
We all know if Pickett signed with Freo on this deal, this thread would be full of demons supporters calling it a horrible deal from freo and laughing at them.
and freo fans would be celebrating it![]()
