Finally, after 6 years of development, it seems as though a more than tentative date has been set for the Mystery game to be released in - August - September, 2010. As we know the Australian link is developing industry Team Bondi - Published by Rockstar Games and available on PS3 and XBOX360.

I've been anticipating this game for quite a while, purely because it looks class. The narrative, atmosphere and aesthetics are drawn from 'film noir' motion pictures, particularly from the 1940's - 1950's, set in a re-creation of Los Angeles in the late 40's. Therefore, in respect to film noir classics, the visual styles and themes will be consistent with moral ambiguities present in the films, focusing on, drugs, corruption, sex and of course crime.

Love the idea of combing through crime scenes, interviewing witnesses, being involved in shootouts, all in an open world theme akin to Rockstar Games, in visual low-key lighting. For memory, I remember reading that Rockstar had announced, that this will be the biggest open world game they have created.

Excited, but expectations will be high considering, it's constant delays, simliar to the most anticipated game in history Gran Turismo 5. :D

Bring it on!

Wow, looks really good, will have to get this game now. Reminded me of the Naked Gun when the guy steps in and says "Nothing to see here".:D

I really don't know about this game. I mean for one we've still not seen one ounce of gameplay and only a couple of fairly average TBH trailers.

It sounds like there's some cool things going on. Like when interviewing people you have to look for facial ticks and such that will alert you to whether they're telling the truth or not. All of this done by the most intricate mo-cap technology going around.

I know that it's Rockstar's style to really keep things under wraps for as long as possible then hit you with a shitstorm of info within a quick couple of months but there really has been nothing but 1 article and that trailer in the whole time since announcement. Give us something substantial!

It seems strange as well when this is said to be the most expensive game ever made, so there would need to be a heap of marketing and backing behind it for sales to make anywhere near what Sony lost initially and what Rockstar payed Sony and then have put towards the project themselves.

It'll be interesting how much of this is action and how much is really crime scene point and click stuff too.

HBK, did you see the article in Gameinformer?

was about 8 pages long, was quite good

The mo cap is the best thing about it. They can capture 10 times the amount of animations doing it this way, and it looks much more realistic

This won't be a "must buy" straight away, but one worht playing if you're into GTA etc. Apparently there is a stupid amount of voice work being done for it too.

I've read snippets here and there (that's what I got the mo-cap info from). Portal 2's preview was a good 4-5 pages long and that still couldn't prepare me for how good the game looked when running and how awesome everything was.

I want to see this thing in the flesh, up and running.

Hmmm....*strokes non existant beard*...allowed to give some details away???;)

I signed a waiver stating that if any info got out, i would have my eyeballs duely replaced with something not so nice.....

Not really ;)

Back in May, at the games show, Rockstar had a booth (and a massive RDR presence of course) But before we could play RDR, they showed us a quick vid of LA Noire

They just happened to show a cutscene showing an investigation into a murder and how the detective goes about it. Showed him interviewing people connected and the such and looking for clues

Was more about the mo cap and how frickin awesome it looked than actual gameplay. But the mo cap was sweet, and the methods used to get info was also quite nice

Much potential here

You're right.

Considering the amount of money that has been put into this game you would assume that there would be a whole heap of hype being generated. Although the mystery remains around this mystery game, and I have a feeling they want it this way.

Just out of curiosity, would you assume that the game is point and click as in something along the lines of Broken Sword? It's seems as though they've cleverly targeted a genre in between other genres, if that makes sense.

Ive seen a vid, and its good

Come on Glenno23, spill it... :p

I'm expecting there to be a crossing of genre's really around all sorts of things definitely. I was going on the point and click type thing from VERY early details we were given where the game was basically described solely as being that. Now obviously there's been expansion to it and we're seeing Rockstar influences as well.

And from what I know there'll be a bunch of different ways to play the game. (These are assumptions as we still don't really have any huge way of knowing how the game will work) There'll be the point and clicky detective scene work (I'm not really even sure how this would work, it could be fairly simple and out there, or it could be very in-depth and you having to notice a tiny fibre from 10 mile away...). Some 'Lie to Me' like facial recognition to tell if interviewees are lying or telling the truth. As well as some open world GTA-ish like play.

The thing that they will 100% need to make sure is that the game is balanced perfectly. I can see the interview and detective stuff being a bit boring if it goes on too long and I can also see the open world GTA stuff being a bit to samey as well. Will also be good to see how the link all these things together, as in how you go from open world to finding a crime scene and then canvassing and interviewing suspects. If it's not done right it could be a complete mess, could seem fantastic on the surface but dig a little deeper and the cracks could open to massive crevasses.

I just want to know what the friggen game is going to be like! Frustrating not knowing much at all about what we're going to see when the game is out, especially if it is coming in a matter of months.

They're using a bunch of the cast of Mad Men for the voice acting. The main character is voiced by Aaron Staten (Ken Cosgrove in MM) and Rich Sommer (Harry Crane) is featured as well. As usual, Rockstar goes for an excellent cast.

Possibly the most insane trailer I've ever seen. Honestly was checking it threee times over to make sure it wasn't a real dude speaking half the time, the voice syncing is pure magic.

Really makes you wonder what kind of stuff the future will hold.

Looks amazing.

You should see it in split screen mode, showing the actor and the character at the same time

Flawless

Rockstar showed us that video with along with the split screen shots at the Conference in October. Everyone was amazed.

Shame it keeps getting delayed

Can only imagine, the detail of the lip syncing is beyond incredible and it'd be almost surreal seeing the real stuff to in-game side by side.

As the tech moves forward (and hopefully can drop to a more reasonable price for everyone to use) gaming will just become more and more realistic. This right here has just boosted the gaming industry so far it's unbelievable, the possibilities are endless.

The only issue overall is that the faces lack some real in-depth detail (at 29 seconds is where you see it). They're just a little bit flat and almost un-textured. Definitely could just be a layer off and since they made this a fair while back obviously, they could've added some extra definition and what not but that was probably the noticable thing for me.

Much like Heavy Rain all the tech going into it just means that there has to inevitibley be a very long development time, and Heavy Rain was NOTHING like this stuff is. There would be an insane amount of glitches and bugs that spring up day over day over day. And the whole Sony publishing exclusively for PS3, dropping out because of exhorbitant spending, Rockstar picking it up and then moving it to XBOX 360 too just no doubt caused a huge headache.

At least they have a set time frame now and hopefully they can stick to it (although knowing Rockstar it will be pushed back a month or two close to whatever original date they end up giving us).

Would seem that Aaron Staton from Mad Men is the lead character. Interesting they have someone from similar time period's acting experience.
