Player Watch Lachie Schultz

Adams was really poor in the last final he played for us against the Dees so it was not surprising that the Swans were loath to play him in the finals when his lead up form was not great. Adams going has given us the opportunity to try some new talent in his former positions.

Watch that final again. Taylor's first quarter was awesome and set up that win.

I have watched the game several times and Taylor mainly gives away frees for being indiscriminate, holding the ball or is guilty of terrible disposal and he is very slow. I know someone close to the club who said his injury was a blessing in disguise. The other thing I noted when rewatching our minor finals from 2023 was how soft and fumbly Lipa was. We must hope that Allan or Perryman can replace him this year.

Tay's attack was brutal in that first quarter. Set the tone and got us off to a flyer.

Absolutely this. + slow.

Lipinski's shoulder was stuffed and clearly made him more hesitant than he usually is. He was much better this year.

People forgetting they’re comparing a guy who played predominantly deep forward and at times as a pseudo KPF with a guy who played higher and had midfield time including games where he played exclusively mid.
I quite agree, and ultimately Shultz is mor likely to slot into a similar role to Elliot, but I thought this year he was doing a role similar to what Adams and Mitchell shared in 2023, with a pinch of Beau pressure defensive forward.

Apparently his defensive numbers were extremely good, and while I'm not completely sure about stats just on their own, the coaches awarded him something called the Gavin Brown award for best defensive pressure player ((no not for snotting TD or being shy).

Not sure how that's explained away by his critics, perhaps Fly is feeling defensive and gave the award dishonestly to ward of criticism?;)

I feel he earned his keep in 24, and has motivation and for improvement in 25.

I must have watched a different game, Adams was excellent in the finals in 2023, and Lippa played his role adequately, albeit losing his spot to Ginnivan in the GF (Lippa was sub, as Jack came in for Adams).

Adams does miss a chunk of game to injury, saw that again this year when he wore himself out for the Swans and honestly they missed his grunt in the Grand Final. Was a top tier mid.

Yeah, I don't agree that Adams was struggling at the end - I thought he was good and would have played in the GF.

I was agreeing to Lippa being fumbly and a bit soft (and slow) in the back half of 2023

I'd love to stick up for Lippa, I think he's a class act but he wasn't at his best at the end of 23, stayed in the sub spot because of the injuries to Adams and McStay.

Credit to Ginnivan for working his way back into the side, he's seen as immature but when it comes to footy he works his little arse off.

Lippa was bad, until the GF, where he was really solid.

Trying to stay positive but that missed shot and that missed handball when he marked it in the middle of the ground just killed us.

He's just SO UNCOORDINATED

Fumbles everything, can't get the ball to his boot, can't get a handpass, can't pick up the ball off the ground then has to duck to get a lucky high free

That was not the player we recruited. I was over the moon when we nabbed him. He was my favourite player to watch outside of the Pies because he played like a little wrecking ball, taking pack marks, snapping freakish goals to lift the purple army. I can hardly recognize him today. He is hesitant, always makes poor decisions with the pill in hand and is a poor set shot.

Let's hope this current version is son replaced by the Freo bloke we recruited.

When I think of Lachie I think three things.

1. Tackling pressure without the ball
2. Fumbles, fumbles, fumbles. He is atrocious below his knees, which is what should be a small forward's strength.
3. Slooooooow decision making, especially from outside 50.

It’s pretty next level that he backed up a poor 2024 first up season that tonnes on here made excuses for, with a mediocre practice match against witches hats where he couldn’t even kick a goal and then arguably his worst game for the club

It’s almost impressive that he also manages to make his blunders at absolutely crucial moments in games with such consistency
