I thought we should get a thread going for this. This is what I've heard so far -

Jon Hopkins
Banks
FKA Twigs
Flight Facilities
Vic Mensa
Seekae
Caribou
Mac De Marco
Courtney Barnett

Not a bad few bands so far announced. The Real Estate tour is pretty bizarre though, announced and promoted by Laneway but starting a few weeks after the festival ends. I'm personally hoping Jamie T ends up on the bill too, his last Aussie show is the night of the Auckland leg, but I really doubt that'll happen.

I'm actually really looking forward to it. The Freo site has to be the best of all them; right in the middle of all those beautiful old, properly restored buildings in the West End and across the pine trees down at the Esplanade. My parents live right in the middle of Freo so I'll be going regardless. It's always a very good festival too, the old site in Perth was right in the middle of the CBD and was my first ever foray into live music – I snuck in with my friend's ID, who looked nothing like me and who turned 18 even later than me. It was great fun, and although scorching hot, was a special day.

In my opinion, the Melbourne one loses that heart. There's barely any shade. The main stage is really poorly designed too, it's far too long. The stages are far apart. So you're better off just sitting down one stage all day because you'll be so far away from the 'headline' acts. Happy I'll be in WA for it this year.

All those announced so far have either just toured, tour a lot, or a shit.

That's how Laneway generally works. I'm not really a fan, and I wish they took more of a risk, but they do get acts that will be quite popular here and will get people buying tickets.

Add to that

Angel Olsen
Lykke Li
St Vincent
I reckon it is a terrific line up. Looking forward to getting along. Missed last year at the Freo venue.

Laneway might get shit acts but they tend to get bands who have never toured here before. That's how it works; small sites, smaller attendances, low priced acts and then they end up cashing in every so often when a Haim/Lorde/Florence and the Machine blow up around festival time

You might be giving Laneway a bit too much credit there. Lorde hit number 1 on the US charts with Royals around the time of last years lineup announcement. She was already big in Australia & New Zealand well before that. Florence was well-established throughout 2009 before playing Laneway in 2010 as well. I don't think you could claim they were 'little known' acts that broke out around festival time by any means.

A few good ones in the full line up like Perfect Pussy.

St Vincent And Perfect Pussy

Will certainly be there

Angel Olsen is genuinely the only act that interests me among those announced so far. Actually considering not going unless there's further additions to the lineup (was hoping someone like Iceage would have been on the bill), having gone in Adelaide the last two years.

Either way though, hopefully they figure out some better sun protection (a few giant marquees and water tents around the place, maybe?) for the Port Adelaide site this time around. The lack of places to just sit and chill for a bit out of the sun was kind of unsafe given the weather. Just asking for people to get sunstroke really.

Yeh, all in all I find the lineup pretty underwhelming too.

I know the festival resists the urge to sign up some big headliners but there just doesn't seem to be much of a pull factor.

I'm not a big fan of St Vincent and Caribou, although big aren't really well known in Australia. I think Mac DeMarco's gaining some real traction and all his LP's are pretty solid so maybe he'll headline? I think I like Mac's personality more than I like Mac's band though.

If my mates go I'll probably hit it though. There's enough hip hop and enough electronica to just keep me interested throughout the day. I might even catch a glimpse of Angel Olsen and cry and then ask her to marry me.

Soooo, only a week away and no timetables yet... is this the norm from previous years?

Absolute cracker of a line-up IMO.

Caribou, St. Vincent, Mac Demarco, FlyLo, Future Islands, Highasakite, Jungle, Little Dragon, Angel Olsen, SOHN, FKA Twigs, POND and Courtney Barnett are all brilliant. The worst thing about it is I'm guaranteed to miss out on seeing some acts due to clashing times.

I can't wait.
