Laptops and soundcards

Quick question regarding laptops and soundcards - I know most come with inbuilt s/cards onto the motherboard and such, but is it possible to fit one with a decent Soundblaster card?

Not without using an external device, like the Soundblaster Extigy etc. I don't know of any laptop manufacturers that offer replaceable sound cards

But yeah, I believe you're going to be stuck with an external sound card if you're unhappy with the basic ones.

The Creative Digital Music External seems to be a good solution; although I'm a bit suspicious of the prices I've found so far online. One place called Computer World has it marked at $484 (way out of my price range) yet another called Microtrade has it selling for $113...

I'm guessing ComputerWorld's price on that is an error.

They're generally the best prices in Melbourne, but for that particular part, they're completely off.

a quick word of warning for places like computer world and it warehouse that you spot in the computer trader magazines, if you dont take the article in to the stre and are a wal n off the strret customer they may charge up to double the green guide.

i know i have to price match a lot of these for work and they are always not stating accurate prices

Champ, if a company advertises one price and then tries to palm it off at 'double', not only is it illegal, word would get around and nobody would shop there. Ever been to one? Most of them have copies of their latest green guide/com trader ads there anyway.

Just more propoganda to get people to Officeworks and pay more because it come s in a box

dont care who you buy it from officeworks are expensive thats why they price match, if you want word of mouth that is what im giving, not saying anybody is better than anybody else.

shop around is the best thing you can do,

as for the topic agree totally on getting an external sound product for a laptop if your after high quality
