Am i the only one here that believes last night was of great benefit to our club?
Positives:
- The club gets over the "judd bananza" and starts realising that there is serious work to do. one player doesn't make a bloody team! there has been to much lovey dovieness around the club! we are not a top 8 side and we need to work on it!
- Ratts had a chance to experiment with game plans (he now knows what will and wont work) and i expect to try a lot more things before round 1. this means our game plan will work round 1 much much much more effectively than the pagan "boot it to fev" strategy.
- Ratts now understands the full extent of some players problems (ie Carrazzo's disposal, Murphy's kicking) and can work on it before round 1
- Our younger kids got to play against a top 4 side pre round 1 (HUGE experience boost and reality check).
- Stevo has recovered fully from injury and is in career best form (All-Australian a possibility)
- Unlike last year, we did NOT fade out in the last quarter. we stuck to it. a HUGE improvement.
- Gibbsy! what can i say? brilliant effort from the youngun last night! to all those who said he was not #1 material - bullshit! the kid is starting to show brilliance - he has shown his abilities at afl level and i expect him to be a lot more solid this year.
- Hampson has now shown he has the ability to hold down a ruck position in our 22! Remember this time last year how we were shitting ourselves over having crap ruck stocks? not anymore.... Hammer and Cloke have shown they have the ability to win the hit outs.
- Our defence did not buckle (much) against arguably one of the best teams in the competition. Last year a crap day would see us yeild 180 points to a team like Hawthorn. That's an 80 point improvement right there. if we only yield 100 points to a top 4 team like hawthorn, we are going to go a lot better against a team with a shit forward line! Remember the days where we held teams to 50 points? now a possibility.
It is clear that our first quarter shitness was due to poor skills and over use of the ball - now we have a few weeks to rectify this and get on with raping the tigers a new arseh*le.
stop panicing! it is pre-season and we have all the reason to expect a much better year. look at the bright side - poor displays now = less poor displays latter when it actually counts!
EDIT: mods i realise they may be some similar topics around so just merge this with them if you feel obliged, sorry!
