According to 6PR today, the likely scenario is:

Croad to Hawthorn in a straight swap for pick 10;

Koops to the Bulldogs for pick 19 and;

we won't get Black.

I'd be happy with that. A top 10 pick and 3 in the top 20 should ensure some reasonable quality youngsters. All will be revealed by midday tomorrow.

1. Croad / Pick 10: good result for Freo. The talk is that Croad would prefer to stay, but has said if the club wants to trade him he will only go to Hawthorn.
2. Koops / Pick 19: good result for Freo. Shame to see Koops go, but at least at the Bulldogs he'll be guaranteed the game time he's after. Good luck to him.
3. We should still try for Black. Wasn't big on this before, but now that we've lost two players with experience, and gained only draft picks (albeit GOOD ones), I think it would be wise to try and get an experienced player to the club. Black wants to come, so they should do what they can to get him. Pick 19 would be about right if they're able to ontrade it. Otherwise our regular 2nd rounder, if they'll take it. Plus a fringe player?? But who?
Reasonable quality youngsters is an exciting prospect, but replacing experience with a raw youngster isn't going to get us any closer to a flag within the next 2-3 years, which is what CC and the rest of us plebs are looking at.

Black for pick 28. No better, he aint worth it.

I agree that pick 28 would be closer to the mark. But experience is something you can't buy.
And as someone on Dockerland said, it's no point having a team with the majority of them on L-Plates. Youth is good, but a blend of youth and experience is better. If that means pick 19 for Black, then it may be worth it. And that's only because he wants to come to us and we know how good he can be. But I would not, absolutely would not, offer a first rounder.

Now that Koopsy is off to the Bulldogs, I guess that kills the Koops + pick 12 for Josh Carr rumour...

Agree 100%, IP.

We'll be getting the best deals possible for Croad and Koops which will put us in the best position for the upcoming draft.

I'd also be willing to trade our natural second rounder (pick 27) and one of Cunningham/Siegert/Mott for Black. Not sure if the Saints would, though.

They might be interested in Mott... they need a ruckman, Mott isn't going to get a lot of game time at Freo depsite his elevation from the rookie list. He's got Simmo, Sandi and JLo in front of him.
Elevated to be traded... seems likely.

Pick 27 and Mott for Black - now that is starting to look like something worthwhile for both clubs IMO.

Apparently it's official... Croad back to Hawthorn for their first round pick... plus we pay 300K of his salary over three years.
Frees up over 1 million of cap space over the next 2 years.
Info came from Dockerland.

And apparently that info came from Tim "The Goose" Gossage on NOVA....:rolleyes:

Latest rumour - Koops to Essendon. Dunno what in return.

Still like the Koops + pick 12 for Josh Carr. Guess we have 2 hours and 9 minutes to see what the final wash up will be.:)
