He was hopeless today. Didnt look interested, nearly cost us the game as giansiracusa ran riot on him. I dont know why woosha plays him in the backline, never mans up, e.g today and against collingwood where davis kicked three on him. Hes gotta lot of talent but needs to work on his tackling and marking skills as today it wasn't an acceptable performance. Just too lazy and unaccountable at times. Too much of a liability in our defence unfortunately unless he plays the loose man role

Should never have been matched on Giansiracusa a coaching blunder.
Gia's form has been down in recent weeks and he has had a heap of criticsm put on him, thank goodness for us he finally responded :thumbsu:
Dont worry we had some equally lazy guy's called ruckman who seem to be lightyears behind your mobile bigman Cox.

He has never been a good one on one defender, he is a sweeper and a good one at that. He is more valuable in the forward line now though IMO. He was pretty average today.

A permanent crumbing forward from now on. When Nicoski returns there will be no need for him in defence

Got outrun, obviously a mismatch. You could see it getting to him, too, he looked very frustrated. I'd say to call him lazy is a tad harsh. He just had a really bad day.

Exactly right. He always looks lazy only because what he does, he does so easily he looks like he's not trying.

He gets caught out occasionally. Who knew Gia was going to be so good today ?

Hardly a coaching blunder but the usual vaguaries of form from one week to the next.

Although I admit he had a bad day at the office, lazy is being a bit OTT I feel.

He has been playing like a man possessed so far this season and I would think we could all give him the benefit of the doubt for one bad game?

He was getting his legs worked on quite a bit today on the sidelines (which was the norm last year, but I haven't noticed it before so far this year), maybe he got a niggle and wasn't quite up to Gia today?

The guy has kicked 11 goals for the season and he's lazy?
Disposals of 20,14,19,17,19 in the last 5 games and he's lazy?

"I don't know why woosha plays him in the backline" - Thank **** you're not the coach - he's a sweeper.

I wish bandwagoners like you would leave and never return.

Most of the team seemed lethargic and lazy today. Wouldn't be surprised if a virus or flu has gone through the club. Wirra was off his game but he wasn't the only one.

wirra did get exposed by a markedly more athletic and nimble opponent yesterday, i was at the ground and he was playing some way off his man for a lot of the time - but surprise surprise - that is what he does!

as someone said, it just didn't pull off on this day

also, he was really struggling to keep up - not sure if it was a niggle, but again as someone said he was getting worked on a fair bit in the legs, and he looked absolutely stuffed during parts (and he wasn't the only one) - which tells me he was working is ass off

personally i wouldn't have played him there - he was soundly beaten, but to say he is lazy is a bit rich imo

A normal game for Wirra IMO.

It just didnt pay off today.

Is a normal game for him not to mark up his opponant, and just to jog around. He is a very talented player but i think at times becomes too complacent. He may not be lazy, but he doesnt put those extra efforts in when hes having an off day, Unlike Kerr. I think he should just play in the forward line

We were going for a taller forward line against the Doggies yesterday so we had to play Wirra down back against the "smaller" doggies forwards. Giansiracusa is a great reader of the ball and Wirra wasn't 100% switched on.

He battled on and we won so thats all that matters. He should also take a good look at Kerrs game and his last quarter chase and tackle. Kerr had a shocker (for his standards this year) but that play was unbelievable!

Daniel Kerr 14 possessions - hopeless - drop him too?

How dare Wirra have a downer after only 5 good ones in a row!

Lighten up man. They are human not robots and do have down days.

Be happy that our down days still result in wins. You could be a Docker where their down days result in getting flogged by bottom sides.

Wirra plays great when we play against teams with taller forward lines eg, Saints, Swans etc. as he plays the loose man in defence that sweeps up the crumbs.

We are quite happy to take the good when Wirra gets multiple touches and sets up goals, we just have to wear it when an opposition coach has the brains to isolate him and go through his opponent.

Happened with Leon Davis last year, happened in the GF when we had to shift Banfield onto Nick Davis......happened again yesterday. We know his strengths, and those strengths come into play when he can run off an opponent. If the ball comes back quick to his opponent and a team makes a concerted effort to go through that player, Wirra's in trouble.

Wouldn't change a thing, as long as (like in all three examples above) Woosha reacts and makes a change or has Wirra tighten up if a team is obviously doing this.

sorry but I disagree on Nicoski

he shut down Aaron Davey in one game..destroyed him actually....and I cant believe people are bagging wiira..hes never ben a super tight defender...thats not his role...hes a sweeper and a guy who drops into packs...but to call him lazy is a joke..shame on you people for starting a thread.....

Agreed. He is played in defense partly because of his creativity when clearing. Occasionally that will backfire, but we don't want to stifle him and turn him into just another tagger. It is frustrating sometimes but I just don't think he has the pace to play that tightly on forwards.

Yeah he doesnt.

Sweeping is Wirras best role and no one does it better.

NO ONE. :thumbsu:

Wirra deserves one lazy game from time to time. He always gives 100% and never shirks from a contest, so you can hardly criticise him for one bad game. Maybe he didn't get enough sleep the night before, maybe he wasn't feeling 100%, or maybe he plain and simply wasn't up to it mentally and his form reflected it.

No big deal. Wirra does not deserve criticism after 1 average game (it wasn't even a bad game!) considering how well he's played this year and for his entire career.
