Learning how to make websites

Does anyone know what the best books are for beginners? Pretty quick learner when it comes to computers/technology etc

Want something that covers basic CSS and HTML

I read that this is the best, but maybe not for beginners?

Just save your money and use web tutorials. Or go to the library and loan a heap of books if you'd prefer to learn that way.

The web is usually more up to date with this sort of stuff anyway. I'm learning through the internet rather than books.

I use w3schools as my one stop shop for pretty much everything website related, it rocks

If you guys want to get into some cool javascript also take a look at jQuery and jQuery UI

What the best and easiest free webhost out there?

I used to use geocities many moons back and it was so easy to use and navigate through.

Now i've had a look at a few different sites and they seem a bit less user friendly and you need to know more on how to sue FTP software to make em work (which i'm not up on).

Any suggestions?

No such thing as a good easy free host.

If you can use a web browser you should be able to use FTP. Alternative to FTP is to find a host that supports cpanel so you can do everything from within your browser.

I'm using Zymic.com, seems ok so far.

Teaching myself how to use the FTP in 10 minutes helped though.

If you want to learn HTML / CSS you're in the realm of front end development.

The best advice I can give is to learn the basics and understand them.... I know most people want to move straight on to the cool shit but you will end up lost.

For CSS learn about:

• selectors - child and descendent selectors
• The box model
• floats
• difference in the above between the different browsers

When you're comfortable with that I suggest learning about the newer CSS3 properties.

And once you have grasped all of the above learn about JavaScript (not jQuery, once you have grasped the fundamentals learn jQuery)

It all depends on how far you want to take this, front end development is easy to pickup and extremely difficult and tedious to master.....Good luck and have fun!
