Just received a press release from the club via email. Not sure if this has been floated yet. Leaseplan will cease to be our Major Sponsor at the end of this year. Sounds as though the club doesn't yet have anything lined up to replace them. Heres hoping Cam can do some more magic.

Disappointing news. Especially seeing as though the club is on the way up and LeasePlan came on in the very depths of 2001-02. Personally, it just seems as though the Dogs can't take a trick off-field with sponsors - however - considering the upward trend we're on - I doubt it will be difficult to replace them - we shouldn't have too much trouble finding another corporate who wants to be associated with us

You've got to think of the positives old boy. No more Ruff Ruff Ruff Ruff Ruff Ruff (Learn how to speak dog or something like that) Ads. We can also get closure on the "Yes! Go Doggies you beauty haha!!!" thing that came up on the screen everytime we scored a goal.

Disappointing but I know the dogs have been actively pursuing other sponsors recently. Obviously been on the cards for a little while.

Hats off to Leaseplan. They've been a great sponsor for many years and took us on when no-one else would.

Looking on the bright side, I'm thankful we didn't have to chase a major sponsor at the end of last year. You'd have to think our chances are better in our current state...although economically it's not a great time to be chasing big dollars from corporates.

I think Leaseplan being mainly a car fleet leasing company, is doing things a bit tougher in this climate of rising petrol prices.

A lot of the companies they deal with are reducing the size of their fleets.

I agree wholeheartedly, without them it is doubtful we would be talking about our beloved Doggies right now.

The admin could aim high for a sponsor, something in the resource sector maybe? Esso used to sponsor the Tigers, maybe ExxonMobil would come on board with us? Anyway, I've got no doubt the club will get a very good sponsorship deal bringing in big bucks for a long time making sure we can play all our home games in Melbourne.

Strange to drop sponsorship after such a great season so far and the chance to get alot of exposure.

Practically for me this will mean I need to update my guernsey to get the new sponsorship, hope it's a good brand.

This is a tough time to be going for new major sponsors.

Who would you most like to replace them with? I would like Apple. Imagine, the MacDogs!

I purchased it on the morning of the 97 Prelim Final. Havent worn it since...

everyone I'm sorry - its my fault. I was saying to my girlfriend on sunday that I hope leaseplan stays our sponsor for a while so I can get good mileage out of my jumper. I guess I spoke too soon.

As disappointing as it is that LeasePlan are dropping the sponsorship, their input and support in those sad years should be appreciated by all supporters.

Hopefully it wont take too long for the Administrative boys to get us an equally awesome (and committed) new one.
 
Sounds as though the dogs think they can attract bigger fish. You'd think Leasesplan wouldn't want to drop off after all these years just as things are starting to look up.
On the flipside, it would be poor loyalty by the dogs if they told Leaseplan to P.O.Q after all the support through the lean years.
I'd suggest that they may step down a rung and become a secondary sponsor next year and the dogs will try to attract a major brand to inject more of the much needed spondoola into the club.

On a positive note, it is a good time to be courting a new sponsor, when we are near the top of the ladder and have a heap of talented young players. It is a much more appetising prospect for companies looking to expand their brand through us, than if we were down the bottom of the ladder with an ageing list.

I am much appreciative of what Leaseplan has done for us. They took us on when we had no sponsors and were at the bottom of the ladder and I have always appreciated them for doing that and appreciated Eddie Maguire who offered free advertisment on the footy show for any company that sponsored us.
