Yes, I said it.

Yes I know he hasn't won a Finals MVP or a championship. But he's just better ok, and in about a month or so, a lot of other people are going to be saying this same thing and wondering how a guy goes 38/8/8 over an entire playoffs, dropping just one game and equalling the Lakers 16-1 domination as the greatest playoff smashing of all time, yet gets little coverage.

And even if you disagree with me, you at least thought about it for a little bit. And LBJ is the only guy you would do that for. Right?

Nobody compares. He's a god damn freak of nature.

Which game will they drop?

And for the record, no. Being a freak of nature doesnt equal his Airness. Just ask Shaun Kemp.

I will be interested to see LeBron post-30 when that athleticism wanes and he wont be able to jump over/around/through people and be able to beat every one down court. How many titles did Jordan win past 30? 3? 4?

I don't think he's smart enough or skilled enough to be Jordan-effective past 30 yet. The playmaking will be there, but the jumpshot and craftiness simply is not. He still only shoots 70% from the line.

Maybe he'll get there, but Im not sure he has the Kobe/Jordan like work ethic to do it; he seems more concerned with sucking corporate **** and 'branding' himself.

I may be proven wrong, but its never happened yet

Peter I have half your posts bookmarked.

Some people are now suspicious of my 'Peter North' bookmark folder.

No

Doesnt have the killer D,is a good defender now but not in Jordan's class

-Doesnt have the killer instinct that Jordan had.Jordan played hard every game,Lebron has been accused before this season of dogging it in the regular season then stepping it up in the Post-season

-Just doesnt explode on a regular basis like Jordan,Lebron gets gret all round numbers somestimes a 40 even a 50.People wouldbuy tix all around the USA with a fair chance they might see MJ light it up

-Think people have very short memories and just forget how good Jordan really was.between 87-93 he was unstoppable. And it was a lot more brutal Defense back then. Not this no-hand checking crap

I like Lebron,but just no

I know there will be arguements to this point but James has great statistics, but it will mean nothing if he doesn't win a championship.

I wonder if we'll be having the same argument about Kevin Durant in a few years time !!! :D :D :)

1993-94 Jordan-less Bulls = 55-27 record

Would the Cavs get that if LeBron were to retire now?

.... Just sayin' :o

Here's the thing; Jordan came in when he was almost 22. So by the time he was 30, he had played 8 seasons.

Lebron is 24, and has already played 6.

So really, the right question to ask is "Will Lebron at 30 be as effective as Jordan was at 34?"

I don't think he's smart enough or skilled enough to be Jordan-effective past 30 yet. The playmaking will be there, but the jumpshot and craftiness simply is not. He still only shoots 70% from the line.

I think it's almost inevitable he'll end up playing as a 4 in his twighlight years.

Maybe he'll get there, but Im not sure he has the Kobe/Jordan like work ethic to do it; he seems more concerned with sucking corporate **** and 'branding' himself.

There was an article in a foreign paper during the Olympics about the reporter walking past McDonald's, and seeing the entire US team there. The reporter was amazed that all of them were downing all sorts of greasy shit - all of them that is, except for Lebron James, who was eating salad.

Also consider how he's gone from average defender to top 2 in the league in the space of two seasons. Consider that his FT shooting has now improved to 78% (and FT shooting is the one area where most guys never improve).

Basically, if there were ever any doubts about his work ethic, they have all evaporated in the 2 years since the Spurs' series.

I wonder if we'll be having the same argument about Kevin Durant in a few years time !!! :D :D :)

No we won't.

Durant will be a helluva scorer, but he'll never be good enough all-round to be considered anywhere near the Top 10.

I was going to say that. He'll invariably end up playing the 4 when he loses a little speed, but will still be fast for a 4, and an excellent passer out of the post.

Also, LeBron hasn't landed himself a true 'Pippen' yet. If he does, forget about it, the NBA is over for the next 10 years.

Durant will be a helluva scorer, but he'll never be good enough all-round to be considered anywhere near the Top 10.

Well, Bird was never a brilliant defender and neither was Magic. It will come down to what Durant achieves rather than his game. That's usually all that matters when you're talking top 10.

After all, Kobe is probably the best all around player the game has seen (not including LBJ) but I wouldn't have him as top 10.

Bird could score, rebound, pass and dribble.

Durant can score and rebound. That's the difference.

Basically, if you take any of the greats, whether it's Bird, Jordan, Magic, whoever...they all were super-creative. Durant will never have that. He's never going to be a point forward, or whatever.

Probably right, but he's going to be a much, much better rebounder than Bird I reckon. Durant may end up being discussed as a PF rather than a SF when it's all said and done, and you'll note almost none of the best PF's could dribble or pass overly well (except Webber of course).

I'd like to think Durant will be a taller, better version of T mac, and especially moreso a guy who gives a shit and isn't a career loser like Tracy has become.

The Lebron and MJ argument is sorta of out of their hands, their franchise has to put the pieces around them no matter how good they are to win the championships. With Mo, Lebron should be able to get it done now. I would be impressed if Denver had Lebron instead of Anthony, just a fairly decent crew to work with.

I think it's bloody difficult to compare absolute greats from different eras. Too many variables that need to be taken into consideration.

Team defense is definately much better now, but the physicality of the game then was incredible compared to the current game. Jordan would've averaged 40 points in the current game. He wasn't a bad defender/passer also. There's no question LBJ this yr has taken a step towards Jordan's level. He has improved his consistency on defense dramatically this yr, this was previously a weak aspect of his game. This yr he was an animal on defense. LBJ is so unstoppable when he takes it to the rim it's a joke. I wonder how he would've coped in the late 80s, early 90s era where he would've been pummeled every time he tried to go to the basket. Who knows? As I said, it's basically a guess. Once LBJ develops a consistent jump shot, particularly fall away post up shot he'll litterly be unstoppable, more so than he is now. At this stage I don't rate him as highly as Jordan was simply because I don't quite think he's as well rounded as Jordan was, he needs to add one or two more aspects to his game and I think he'll be there. Will he end up as good or better than MJ? Yeh, i think it's probable. At this stage he isn't though.

I must say, I find it amazing what LBJ has been able to do with the teams he's been on. Has he yet played on a team that has had another all star on it whilst playing with LBJ? Amazing. This is why I find it such a joke that people compare Kobe with LBJ. When Kobe had no Shaq, the Lakers were mediocre and Kobe was whining and jacking up 30 shots a game. LBJ in a team that I would argue is certainly not much better than what Kobe was on (without Shaq) has taken his team to the NBA finals, Conference Finals and now the Finals (prob championship). Amazing.
