Was thinking about who could replace browns role next year.
perhaps goldsack could do it. He could learn the ruck to help jolly out
and can play around the ground. Thoughts?

1: Mitch Clarke.Brisbane (too expensive)
2: Jesse White. Sydney (Good Prospect)
3: Justin Koschitzke. Saints. (Can play forward and ruck. Will come cheap also)

Cameron Wood.:thumbsu:

No, I'm not joking.

I seriously think we do not need to recruit any more rucks.

If anything we may need to add Key position depth both forward and back, before we even considering trading for a ruckman.

Wood showed the last few matches of the season he can ruck and also play forward, and with another pre season under his belt he will be better again.

I think we will go with 2 rucks on plenty of occasions next year, and it won't always be a Jolly/Wood combo with Jolly rested at times and the likes of Witts/Ceglar/Keefe given plenty of experience at senior level.

Kozi is important to saints no way they'd give him away cheap, plus id really rather not have him his a crap ruckmen and an okay forward plus puts on 0 pressure in the forward 50 no agility or speed

Please, if he ever steps foot in the Westpac Centre there goes my membership...

Our ruck situation is fine, Jolly is one of the best in the comp, Wood is improving every year and we have two young prospects in Ceglar and Witts. Teams like Richmond would kill to be in our situation...

Its just my opinion, but if we could get him cheap, I reckon he could fill Browns roll quite well.
It would also allow us to develop our up and comers better, instead of throwing them into the deep end like we did with Fraser.
I also think a change of club and enviroment would do him well.
But as I said, Its only my opinion.

I watched Witts train last week, stood along aside him and thought "now I know why Leigh Brown retired"....If all goes right, he may be the exception to the big man rule development and play immediately - he was throwing Anthony Rocca around like a beanbag lol..

WITTS!

I was Actually Thinking Ceglar - That if he has a Full and Big Pre-Seaoson as I thought he showed he can do it well at VFL Level and I think a Few Games at AFL would not hurt him

So between Ceglar and Witts we shouldn't need to recruit a similar type, TD, should we?

I still think if goldy bulks up a bit then he could do that utility type role that leigh brown currently does. Ceglar and witts will be used when jolly retires

What about Jordan Lisle? He did a good job on Dawes when Lisle had 10 disposals 10 marks kept him goaless. I would give use Lisle in a straight swap for MaCaffer. Lisle can play forward/Back/Ruck Thoughts?

Well that would Definitely Catch my Fancy as I reckon Lisle could be a Good Player and with Fasolo coming on you could cay he has Taken MaCaffer Spot.

I would do that Trade

Only rucks I'd look at:
1. Trent West (Ready to go versatile no.1/2 ruck option. Can play and have impact now. For mine possible at right price, but unlikely)
2. Zac Clarke (Quality young no.2 ruck option. Very unlikely)
3. Majak Daw (Developing but can play now. no.2 ruck option. Very unlikely)
4. Mark Jamar (no.1 only - very unlikely trade target)

If none of these eventuate then Lachlan Keeffe for no.2 ruck - just might take a little while for him to learn + grow into the role.

Dawes is the closest thing we have to Brown ATM, both can play ruck/KP, similar body shape, with N. Brown coming back next year it's going to give us a surplus of KBs, i've suggested trying Dawes as our no2 ruck and sendng Reid fwd.

That be Just Stupid Mate. It all Depends what Happens with Tarrant. Does he Retire after this Year if we win the Flag then. The Spine would be set Then

can anyone else see nathan brown playing the role.. same size, quicker, stronger and has a fairly good tank?

1: No chance the Cats would give him up. Going to be a good player.
2: Zac Clark will not be traded by to us by Freo. Huge potential.
3: WHO. I know who he is, but if he couldnt break into the Roos this year?? Plus they would never give up on him, He's apparantly the next Nic Nat.
4: Good luck.

We really don't want to disrupt a settled spine by shifting Reid from CHB where he has become the best in the comp plying his trade and nor do we want to remove a gorilla from the forward line in Dawes which really is pivotal to our structure.

IMO, I have doubts about Wood being able to do it as I see him as a #1 ruck or back up #1- he ain't mobile or aggressive enough to be the #2 so I'm a huge support for Keeffe to learn and develop in the role.

Would be awesome if Witts could somehow manage to do it and learn on the job before taking the #1 mantle.

Silly idea, Nate Brown is no Ben Reid, Reid is an AA CHB who provides attacking drive and reads the opposition kick better than most players in the league, totally different players.

Dawes is so important as a permanent forward to the structure of the team, you are suggesting weakening the backline and forwardline in a major way to improve the ruck marginally if at all.

I'll answer TDs question first, i'm assuming Taz will play on Dave.

IMO we can't play N. Brown, Reid, Dawes, Cloke, Taz as well as playing 2 rucks, i firmly believe Reid has more to offer than being a backman, i think he could become a very, very good KF if given the time and we have Keefe who is improving as a KB.

So IMO, if we want to play 2 rucks one of those KPPs will have to miss out, as i said, we can use Dawes in the role and make him dangerous up fwd at certain times throughout the game.

1. Going to be a fine young footballer and the cats want him too much.
2. We've had good success with trading for freo players over the past few years (Medhurst/Tarrant) But no.
3. No, the Roo's rate him very highly and still Rookie listed but will obviously be upgraded next year.
4. Haha definately not. He thinks Jolly is a softy. Could never see them working side by side.

what about Keefe? surprised no one pushed for him

Sure there is still some development.
Tall enough to provide a contest in the ruck
Better than Leroy as follower type
Can play forward and back

Sure he's not quite there yet but he will fill that 2nd ruck/versatile tall role really well
