Leigh Brown replacement 2012?

Been a spate of blue moons in recent years:
Brown,
Ball,
Jolly,
Tarrant,
Krakouer,

OK not all quite as cheap as Brown but gifts nonetheless.

Brown was uber-cheap.
Ball was relatively cheap but we tried in good faith to pay more.

Jolly and Krakouer were expensive whilst we paid a fair price for Tarrant.

We don't want to be playing two ruckman Why do you think we play Leigh Brown instead of Wood.. it would be pointless to draft a tap ruckman as some are suggesting.
We need a guy that can play both ends or at least hold an end when not rucking, wood does not do this.. in fact i have no clue what the hell wood does when not in the ruck......... we need someone that can pinch hit in the ruck while jolly takes a rest from ruck duties but must have a valuable position on the ground either up forward or down back not floating around the ground doing nothing!!

Do you guys think that Leigh Brown has perhaps retired earlier than he would have if not for the 'Leigh Brown Role'?

Seems to me as though he may have retired at the perfect time in a commercial sense for himself as his currency is bound to be at it's highest point due to the changing ruck role.

First of all his currency would be fairly low right now as he had a very disappointing second half of the year.

And he won't be playing AFL in 2012, a battered body and spending more time with his partner might have something to do with it.

Well don't know how much football you watch but Nate has been used a number of times up forward in the past and our FB line is set. Reid and Tarrant have it covered. Taz is so much more comfortable down back than up forward. So which big guy do you leave out for Nate?

I don't rate him at all & think he is a complete spud but Lachy Hansen is all but gone from North.

Straight to GWS or the Suns, he will ask for a lot more then he's worth, and we aren't really after a high priced recruit.

He has been so inconsistent also, will be a loss for the Roos, but we won't be going anywhere near him.

On Keefe, he was just on TAC Cup future stars (only caught the end of his segment).:)

Lachie may very quickly be over taken by the likes of Witts and Ceglar who towards the end of the year showed more talent up forward then Keefe ever has.

I'm afraid if Keefe can't make it as a key position defender, he may never get regular games at Collingwood, because his ruckwork has also been shown to be pretty poor, even at VFL level.

N Brown has played 2 or 3 games as a forward in games where there was no clear matchup for him in defence.

Tarrant has the flexibility to play tall or small and is far more capable than N Brown to play in a variety of roles forward or back.

Nathan Brown will slot into FB next season where he will continue his developing partnership with Reid and Taz will be used as we had initially intended for him to be used- in a variety of roles to give us more flexibility up until those circumstances changed with Brown's season ending injury.

Can he play ruck? I wouldn't mind Hansen as a Leigh Brown replacement.
He has very similar attributes, most people thought Leigh Brown was a spud before Malthouse turned him into a servicable player. He is also a former top 5 pick like Brown.

Rhys Stanley is also another to look at. Has a lot of talent & towelled us up in a NAB Cup game last year. Had limited chances at St. Kilda owing to Lyon but I can't see the new coach giving him much time.

Stanley definitely worth a look. A lot of toe for a big man and completely overshadowed by Riewoldt / Koschitzche love.

Well if he would be worth a Go - AS you said looked bloody good in the NAB Cup and Some VFL Games I have seen

Pretty sure he's been injured this year which added to why he wasn't getting games. You'd think a new coach WOULD play guys like Stanley though, not cut them. A new coach is much more likely to get rid of dead weight first and play kids.

If freo snag Mitch Clark, which they will, why is it so impossible that we could get Zac?? He has huge potential... Surely they couldn't play both Clarks in the same team?? Griffin also.. Though i think he will get traded.

Mitch Clark basically doesn't want to play as a ruckman, so they could play both he and Zac in the same team. Griffen has no place in the side, apparently he's being linked to Port Adelaide.

Makes sense... but what doesn't make sense is that he has played his best football as a ruckmen and IMO is an average forward at best.
