This is getting ridiculous, give credit were credit is due, this man has had his best season on record at out club and deservedly earnt All Australian honours.
Someone please inform me of why the davis hate? We are forgetting just how good he was at the start of the season. He was insane, you are judging him on the back of 3 finals games, in which yes he has in past played poorly in and yes he was out of form, but come on it was blatantly obvious he was injured, and unfit. The man gave his all at the start of the year to earn all of our respect, and he got it. He set his standard to high. WHY ON EARTH ARE WE TALKING ABOUT TRADING HIM?? he is one of our best 5 players and ready made bodies in the team who can play various roles. Do you think he purposely is playing bad? bookmark this, next time he plays in a finals series he will rip it up he will get hungrier than ever, he will pace his season next time.

I just cannot believe what i have been reading.

I love Leon.

He is one of the best Collingwood players of all time to watch.

Unfortunately, he continually plays poorly in finals. We can't escape from that. Finals are when players earn their reputations. If you don't stand up, you lose repect not only from the supporters, but the entire football world.

I for one, wanted desperately for Leon to have a great final series, but he bombed badly. I think he would be the first to admit that. Hearing the Bronx cheers was embarrassing. In a way, I can't blame supporters, but I really felt badly for Leon.

I would hate to see him leave though as we have few players who are genuinely exciting to watch.

Nobody is denying how good his year was. It was outstanding. But it's not good just helping us get there if you're going to help us lose when it matters. If he doesn't perform next finals series, he'll probably be gone to be honest. I love the guy though, and would be shattered to see him go.

Players should always be judged on finals games.

And if he is injured/unfit, then he's a dopey twat for talking himself up after the qualifying final in the media.

I don't care how good he was early in the year. Means nothing if we're going to be kicked to the curb come September.

What amazes me is how he's been singled out.

Didak had all that publicity last year, said he wanted to stay with us and repay the faith..... He seems to have avoided it. Swan was well down on his season form.... He'll probably win our b&f.... He seems to have avoided it.

What our midfield lacks without pendlebury is someone to show leadership. I love all the guys listed.... but even at their best I don't class them as leaders. We need more players who will lead by example. Our backline is full of them, the rest of the team tends to rely on a couple of players to bring them into the game however.

Tough list management decisions must be made, we are clearly not up to the standard of the top two teams and we cannot afford to miss our opportunity over next 2 -3 years. We must look to trade Leon , its now or never. Leon is a fantastic player against average opposition anything greater than this and he goes missing every time. I hate to say this because when he is in full flight he is great to watch but that’s the way i see it.
Further to this we should move Obree and Johnson on from Saturday's team and also throw Fraser up for trade. I'm generally not one who likes to trade players because their our players but i'm sick and tired of missing opportunities and watching other teams succeed.

Yeah gotta agree it was strange. It just added fuel to the fire (or lack there of)

What amazes me is how he's been singled out.

Not sure why people don't accept the loss and we were simply beaten by a better side? If we were running at maximum output, sure the result would have been different but that's life. IMO from the Swans game (which we won) our form was really poor. Apart from the 3rd quarter against the Crows where we got the spark and MM's coaching paid off, our last 3-4 games weren't all that flash and weren't the kind of form you want to take into the finals. Whether it's because of fitness, coaching, ability or the planets weren't aligned that remains to be seen.

I dunno? ... I think because we were so out classed by the Cats it made dropping out the finals easier for me and I can't really point the finger at individuals.

It's going to be a cracking GF.

I think the criticism has been over the top but not without reason.

I think the reason Swan escapes the criticism is that whilst he was down on the extremely high standards he had set for himself he still played respectable footy in two of the four finals. The amount of pressure on him to win the hardball I think lead to a drop in disposals aswell as the fact that he was heavily tagged. IIRC he had a team high 7 clearances against Adeliade.

As has been mentioned Davis has caused a lot of this by coming out in the media and signalling his intentions to redeem his poor finals history. The fact that he has the stigma of being a passanger in finals is also what is leading to this. I think in part that stigma is exagerhated but it's not entirely untrue either.

I am also suprised that Didak has escaped being flamed to be honest. After that purple patch his form has been poor and there were a number of really poor efforts from him in the finals. He is certainly one who you could question his efforts to go when it was his turn over the finals series which is unacceptable from one of your better and senior players.

As with all the other comments - has failed to perform in finals every year we have played. I was embarrassed for him on Saturday night as the jeering when he finally won a possession was cringe worthy.

I to would hate to see him go, but the club needs to be ruthless in finding players who can perform to the level required in big mathes and finals campaigns.

Likewise Didak should also feel the blow torch for his inability to handle hard tags in big matches.

There should be no sentiment surrounding these issues - if we can identify players that can stand up in big mathches and fit our needs (KPF, Class mid fielder, Big bodied ruckman) then we should pursue this vigourously even if it means losing Davis and Dids.

Its not so much the performance of Davis in finals for what? 8 years now? but more the effort, Blind freddy could see that his effort is way down compared to earlier H/A games.
If its good enough for Dale Thomas, Alan Toovey and Leigh Brown to bust their asses in Finals games yet stll have only an ok impact then it should be whats expected of Leon, yet he cant or will not do this year after year.
Not good enough for mine and he should be traded as Fraser should have been 2 years ago.
Nobody wants to see favourite sons leave i dont, but if we are fair dinkum about standards and ultimate success hard calls need to be made im sorry.

Well without him in the first 22 rounds of the year we wouldn't be in the finals the first place would we???

Yeah he had an average campaign, but since when has he played bad in finals (not counting 2002/03 when was was simply an average footballer to begin with??)

Get off his back, he is a star

either get neon to play only in the 50 metre ark or make him resposible to tag the likes of ablett, judd, kerr, cousins, selwood, and cooney and see what real gut bust running is all about..as for josh the soon as he plays as a key forward and not play in the ruck were we gets smashed by the brutes the better will be off.. also get his mummy to take away his teddy and night light!!!!!!!

Scapegoat, but not the lone ranger. I would never give any of ours the bronx but it was incredibly disappointing to see our very best players unable to cut it in finals. Especially when the kids held up pretty well.
