MELBOURNEfc today announced that former player, Andrew Leoncelli, would join the Board, effective immediately.
Club Chairman, Paul Gardner, said, “Andrew was a great favourite among our supporters and playing group and I am thrilled to have him return to Melbourne in this official capacity. Since retiring from football, Andrew has forged a successful career in business and property development and his appointment reinforces our desire to increase the depth of our Board as well as focus on on-field performance. I am sure that every Melbourne supporter will be excited by the news of Andrew's appointment and we look forward to his contribution.”
Leoncelli, who played 146 games for the Club from 1996 to 2003, was a member of the senior leadership group in his role of deputy vice captain between 1998 and 2003, and was an active member of the AFL Players’ Association, serving as Vice President between 2000 and 2003.
Leoncelli has since spent several years involved primarily in tax consultancy and residential development projects. His qualifications include an MBA from the University of Melbourne, and advanced Corporate Finance and Applied Investment studies with the Securities Institute of Australia.
Leoncelli, who is married with a young daughter, commented, “It will be great to give back to the Club which gave me so much as a player. I am looking forward to working with the Board, Dean and Chris to help return our football fortunes in 2008 and beyond.”
Will be a good addition to our growing in strength club. I think its good to have a former player on the board
