Well it seems somehow NSW have actually managed to sneak their way into the Shield/Cup final after nine seasons of underachievement... Anyway I'll kick off proceedings here... NSW are NOT worthy of playing on the hallowed turf of the Gabba this coming week.

After being humbled in the first innnings (of the previous match) the Blues can just about hang their heads in shame when you consider they were playing virtually the Qld 2nd XI, and I'm not talking about the absence of the international stars either.

Yes that's right - without the likes of Joe Dawes, Scott Brant and Adam Dale the Blues were able to amass a pitiful 102 against an ailing Kaspa (he aint the bowler he used to be), Carseldine and Anderson, with only Noffers being able to hang his head up high with a five-for. And add to that the absence of Law (and I'm not going to mention Haydos, Maher, Simo, Bichel and Hauritz so you feel a little better) and it puts the lack of experience into perspective.

That's right all you Mexicans out there crossing the tweed (you all know who you are), NSW are not worthy of playing their first final against the mighty Bulls since the late eighties, and will be completely out classed against a younger, fitter and talented el supremo outfit. Bring on 5 in a row!

I'll take the bait...

Nine seasons (or more) of being crippled by international selection. Still managed to win it a couple of times in the early 90s while the internationals were away on duty.

Can't claim Dawes as an absent member... he was 12th man. Obviously the selectors saw four better bowlers available (not that I agree necessarily). An ailing Kaspa? He's either fit or he's not... he played, therefore he's fit. If you're referring to his age, remember MacGill and Slater are around the same age, and both Waughs are nearing 38.

Law was absent due to the fact he's averaged 18 with the bat this summer, I doubt he would have made much difference. For the five QLD players absent on World Cup duty, it's just as easy to mention that four NSW players are in the same tournament - Bevan, Bracken, McGrath and B.Lee. Arguably Australia's best ever pace bowler, and one of the most dominant Shield batsmen of recent years, I'd say that'd be quite a blow to most sides.

In the same post you described the same players as inexperienced, a virtual second XI, with only one bloke who can hold his head high.

So I guess you're bringing in 10 ring-ins to help Noffke this week.

Why not? He didn't play. Queensland only brought 12 players to Sydney and Dawes did his back. Makes perfect sense to make him the one who misses out I would have thought. In fact, Dawes was flown back to Brisbane and Damien MacKenzie replaced him. (MacKenzie ended up fielding the entire second innings as Carseldine was injured)

And Great_Unknown - Hopes didn't bowl too badly either.

i have to agree with darky. unfortunately NSW produces far too many great cricketers. being the cream of the crop not only means that you are always crippled by the abscence of australian representatives, but also by the overflow of talent to other states coz they cant get a look-in in the NSW side.

and BTW.. NSW may have been humiliated in the first innings, but not as badly as Qld were at the hands of that crushing defeat

Is that so eh nicko? It seems a contradiction in terms considering that NSW is well known for poaching players from interstate (ie. Simon Katich and Stuart MacGill are both from the WACA academy if memory serves correctly). I also recall that one J.Maher was offered a lucrative deal some three seasons ago by NSW Cricket to captain the Blues and join a Sydney radio station on a contract basis. It seems a plea out of desperation doesn't it?...;)

Anyway, when you're guaranteed a place in the final, why risk taking more than twelve players to play and possibly get injured playing in a dead rubber?

And then scored 8/477 in the 2nd innings. Queensland didn't get 200 in either innings.

Gilchrist would be handy back in the NSW side.
Arnberger, Higgs and Rummins all from NSW also.

I am sure there are many more.

its coz we are always crippled by the abscence of test players that the NSWCA even consider getting players from outside NSW
