and the third side would rejuvenate the summer with a fresh new set of players. Would be awesome if someone like Pakistan or NZ were out here now for this. Reckon we'd get 70,000+ for Aust v Eng day/nighter at the G if played next week
And if they can resurrect and recall Greig, Benaud, Chappell and Lawry for the broadcasting, then I’m sold

Sure I do. I also know it needs frequent reapplication in non-sealed environments, particularly if often eroded. Say with a ball hitting it. Or a bat tapping a pitch. I can see the theory, I just doubt the real world practicality. Strongly doubt actually.
Listen, I know you’ve made up your mind mind and will refuse to agree to the point that every batter/coach of that era could admit to have used it successfully but, bugger it, I’ll bite;

Frequency of reapplication would vary depending on the viscosity of the substance and how porous the surface is (wood/sticker/tape). It also only needs to work once or twice to be worthwhile.

Now, whether players did or still do try such things we’ll never truly know, but given how many different substances/substrates have been used in ball tampering, I reckon it’s fairly likely they gave it a whirl.

How well it works is almost irrelevant, it only needs to work sometimes to void the usage of the technology.
