the point i was making was that those named players have been resigned & therefore we were never going to attract any of those types...........the only exception was ever going to be for one of those types of players.........but guess what..............they arent available...........therefore we shouldnt trade our hard earned first pick on a lesser player who another club would willingly discard........rather we should use it on the best available young talent.

I agree with you Vanda, don't get me wrong. Why would any club trade away a decent pick for an average player? I was just nit picking your original post. On the one hand you stated we should "under no circumstances" trade our first round draft pick, then, a paragraph later, you describe a circumstance in which we should "consider" trading the draft pick away.

What is the "reality" you speak of? How do we know that at the end of the season, there won't be a top midfielder wanting to move clubs? DalSanto, Kelly and Kerr aren't available. You're right. They've been signed. How does that prove Essendon will never attract a player of similar type? Just because they're not available, doesn't mean other players coming out of contract at seasons end shouldn't be targeted by the club.

He was pick 7, not 10.

There's a long way yet to being a good player then. Though I have complete confidence in Winderlich.
